WPL 2023 Eliminator: Mumbai Indians vs UP Warriorz Match Report
Nat Sciver-Brunt helped Mumbai Indians single-handedly to reach a big total
UPW captain Healy won the toss and decided to bowl vs MI. Matthews and Yastika opened for MI while Harris bowled the first over for UPW. The openers started the inning slowly but still, they gave a steady start to Mumbai. Sarvani drew the first blood by taking the wicket of Yastika for 21 runs. A length delivery by Sarvani, Yastika hit it straight to Navgire at mid-on & she made no mistake. A short delivery by Parshavi Chopra, Matthews directed it to the fielder at long-on for a catch and went back to the stands for 26 runs. Nat Sciver-Brunt took responsibility to step up and make a difference for Mumbai Indians. Skipper Harmanpret Kaur came into the middle after the dismissal of Hayley Matthews. She started with a positive mindset but failed to extend the inning. Sophie Ecclestone removed her from the crease for 14 runs.
Kaur's dismissal brought Amelia Kerr on the pitch & she performed really well for Mumbai by accompanying Sciver-Brunt. She completed her half-century and after a few overs, Mumbai reached 150. Amelia Kerr lost her wicket to Ecclestone for 29 runs in 19 deliveries. A good delivery by Ecclestone and Kerr tried to go big. She smashed it to square leg for a catch, and Sarvani fumbled but completed it. Mumbai Indians lost their fourth wicket for 164 runs in the last delivery of the 19th over. Nat Sciver-Brunt helped Mumbai to reach 182 runs after the end of 20 overs by scoring 72* runs in just 38 deliveries with 9 fours & 2 sixes. She remained not out till the last delivery & Mumbai collected 18 runs in the last over.
Kiran Navgire fought alone but Mumbai bowlers were too good against UP Warriorz
Alyssa Healy & Sehrawat opened for UP Warriorz to chase the huge target of 183 runs. A really poor start for UP Warriorz as Sehrawat lost her wicket after scoring just 1 run. Saika Ishaque gave the start they needed to put UPW under pressure. Wong dismissed skipper Healy for 11 runs & Warriorz lost both the openers under just 12 runs. Tahila Mcgrath who has been consistent throughout the campaign, failed big time this time as Amanjot Kaur got her run out. Tahila's wicket brought Grace Harris on the pitch who also has been brilliant for her team. She accompanied Kiran Navgire who was dominating Mumbai bowlers right from the start. In the 8th over, Harris got out to Nat Sciver-Brunt for 14 runs.
Kiran Navgire fought alone for UP Warriorz with big hits. Eventually, she also lost her wicket & Issy Wong became the reason behind this. She made 43 runs in only 27 deliveries with four fours & three sixes. Deepti Sharma hold the team for some time but they fell down very easily as Mumbai bowlers went ruthless against them. Wong made history by taking the first-ever hattrick of WPL. She claimed 4 wickets while Saika scalped 2 wickets. UP Warriorz lost their all wickets at the score of 110 runs. Mumbai Indians won the match by 72 runs & they reached the WPL 2023 Final where they will face the table topper Delhi Capitals.
