David De Gea won the Premier League's Golden Glove award for the 'keeper with the most clean sheets last term, but he also made some costly individual errors and there remain question marks over his ability to play out from the back. So David De Gea replacements are important for Man United right now.

The 32-year-old's current deal expires imminently and according to The Athletic's transfer specialist David Ornstein "it looks like he may well leave".

Here are five big names that have been linked with joining Manchester United to replace De Gea this summer.

David Raya

The Brentford goalkeeper has made no secret of his ambitions to play at a higher level. The Spaniard made 154 saves last term – the most of any Premier League 'keeper – and was outstanding as Thomas Frank's Bees punched above their weight to finish in the top half.

Tottenham have most frequently been linked with Raya but have reportedly been put off by their non-negotiable asking price. It looks as though Daniel Levy has moved on to other targets for Hugo Lloris' successor between the sticks, with a verbal agreement to sign Empoli's Guglielmo Vicario.

That potentially leaves United with a free run at the Spain international's signature. But he won't come cheap. A number of outlets including The Mirror have reported that the club's interest is real.

"You all know the price – £40million – and absolutely it's realistic," Brentford boss Frank told reporters at the end of the 2022-23 campaign.

Andre Onana

Having originally caught the eye in Ajax's exceptional run to the Champions League semi-finals under Erik ten Hag, Onana once again underlined his elite credentials with a starring role in Inter's run to the final last term.

The Cameroonian proved to be an upgrade on Nerazzuri captain Samir Handanovic and made some stunning saves en route to Istanbul, keeping five clean sheets in six knockout outings prior to the defeat to City – where once again he demonstrated bravery and composure in playing out from the back.

Inter's financial precarity means that they could be forced to cash in on some of their star assets this summer. The Daily Mail report that United have "sound out" the 27-year-old over a potential move to Old Trafford, Making him the best among the David De Gea replacements list.

Jordan Pickford

One to take with a pinch of salt, perhaps, but there would be a certain degree of prestige in signing England's No.1. Pickford himself has proven absolutely pivotal in Everton staying in the Premier League after their flirtation with relegation over the past couple of seasons.

But it wouldn't be easy to get the 29-year-old out of Goodison Park. Earlier this year he signed a mammoth four-and-a-half-year contract with Everton, protecting his value in the coming years.

In June, The Sun reported that United are ready to move for Pickford "whether De Gea leaves or not". Watch this space.

Bart Verbruggen

It looks as though highly-rated Dutch goalkeeper Verbruggen, who has impressed scouts with some very promising performances for Anderlecht, will be plying his trade in the Premier League next term.

The 20-year-old has been tipped to be reunited with old boss Vincent Kompany at Burnley while Brighton are reportedly the frontrunner for his signature.

"I have always said that it is my dream to play football in England. Just the fact that I'm mentioned there is something to be proud of," Verbruggen recently told Belgian outlet Het Belang van Limburg while away on international duty.

But United have also been linked with the youngster, who is seen as a specialist with the ball at his feet. If De Gea leaves, it would make sense for United to revisit this one and swoop in ahead of Brighton.

Don't be surprised if this is the next player that the Seagulls sell for three or four times what they bought him for in a few years time.

Diogo Costa

With a name that sounds like he's algorithmically been produced by a Portuguese AI to serve Jorge Mendes' portfolio of players, Diogo Costa is in fact real. And those that watch him regularly swear he's very good indeed.

The 23-year-old has already established himself as Portugal's No.1 and has made over 100 appearances for boyhood club Porto. Chelsea are also reportedly chasing Costa's signature, but it's United who have been most closely linked. But the man himself appears in no rush to depart the Estadio do Dragao.

"That's the internet. It is a happiness and an honour to play for my favourite club," Costa said in June.

"What they say is what they say, there is nothing concrete, I have a contract until 2027 and I hope to continue, let's see."
