How good does it feel to have the regular season back, to be able to sit and watch the games, in anticipation of the Super Bowl once more? It is awesome.
You have to admit, this year there are so many good teams, and there has been so much going on it is hard to guess who will be at the Super Bowl this season. Only a few weeks in the NFL betting lines are already going crazy.
But, only a few weeks in, there is not much we can say just yet, so let's reminisce instead. It is time to look back at the best 7 teams to be in the NFL in the history of the league!
#1. Miami Dolphins: 1972
Was there ever any doubt? Of course, the Miami Dolphins from 1972 are the number one best of all time. They were undefeated.
Inside of their -4.27 strength of schedule, they had the best in the league in point for and in points against.
Their epic season was with the backup QB, Earl Morrall, who won 9 games overall and was named to be the first-team All-Pro in that season. Of course, there were also Csonka and Morris there, rushing over 1,000 yards and making the Pro Bowl too.
It was a great line-up, but honestly, every aspect was a masterpiece.
#2. Chicago Bears: 1985
It was a tough choice for no.2, but the Bears had a high number of points scored with a mean of 32.4%. They had a super dominance when it came to defense, forcing 54 turnovers, and allowing a meager 12.4 points per game.
This team had 3 First-team All-Pros and 5 Pro Bowlers in their defense alone.
They also had a very strong schedule at 0.19.

#3. San Francisco 49ers:1984
Surprised? You shouldn't be. They were one of the best teams in history. However, they did have less in terms of personal achievement than our aforementioned teams.
They also had the least turnovers in the NFL. But Montana ranked 2nd with his 32 passing touchdowns, and 1st with his 10 interceptions. They also came in second in their net yards that they gained per passing attempt.
Rushing attacks were also pretty dominant, scoring 2nd in their average per touchdowns and rush. Yards on the ground was also 3rd, so they did rock the league.
For this, we have to put them in 3rd place.
#4. New England Patriots: 2007
The '07 Patriots were the greatest of all the great teams, but they did have some problems in performance when it was of utmost importance. They lost to a Giants team in the Super Bowl, which did rain on their parade a bit.
But, their output in offense matches all our former three teams in relative to their mean, with an offensive score of 69.7% more points than the set league average.
However, their 3 point loss to the Giants thanks to Manning did ruin this team's immortality in this particular year. Would you believe it if we said that the Dolphins were better than 75.5% of the mean in their offense and defense, but the Pats offense alone was at 69.7%... just the offense!

#5. Washington: 1991
This team would deserve a better ranking if it wasn't for those already in place. But, they did have an extra in the loss column. Their offense was about as impressive as the '07 Patriots, but their defense was just as epic, with a score 59.6% higher than the average of the league.
They also had 2 All=Pros, 6 Pro Bowlers, and Art Monk had over 1,000 receiving yards as well!
Let's not forget they had 2 All-pros in their team as well, but these were Darrell Green and Jim Lachey. Not names easily forgotten by a Washington fan!
#6. San Francisco 49ers: 1989
The 49ers again, but in 1989, they were a solid team, one of the greatest ever, mainly due to star power. But, they were also an offensive weapon, they led the league in points scored and came 3rd in their scoring defense.
They had Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, Ronnie Lott, Roger Craig, and also Steve Young, all in their roster.
Lott, Montana, and Rice, were all also First-Team All-pro honors players as well, to add to the fame.
They managed to force more interceptions in defense than they allowed in passing touchdowns!
They had Montana and Young combining for the most touchdowns and the fewest interceptions in that year, which is pretty impressive!
#7. Pittsburgh Steelers: 1975
Let's finish with the Steelers. They had 11 Pro Bowls, and 3 All-Pros. Their All-Pro players make their living on defense too. How much talent they had makes them one of the best.
Their offense was not explosive, in fact it was the lowest on our list, but their points in defense allowed below average at an awesome 43.8%, topping off the '85 Bears!
Their defense was still 2nd somehow, but they allowed only 9 passing touchdowns and intercepted 27 passes. Pretty great if we do say so.
