AFC Champions League Team of the tournament: Dheeraj Singh, named the goalkeeper of the team

FC Goa goalkeeper Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem has been named in the 2021 AFC Champions League Team of the Season for his brilliant contribution to FC Goa during their AFC campaign.

FC Goa was the first Indian team to take part in the AFC Champions League Tournament. However, the Gaurs failed to make good progress through the tournament but they managed to show some positive performances, being a first-time participant.

Dheeraj Singh and his amazing performances

Dheeraj Singh was the highlighted player from the FC Goa squad, his performances, and stellar saves kept the Gaurs in a commendable position even though they failed to make a good impact. He made 26 saves that included a save from the penalty spot and had an overall save percentage of 86.2. FC Goa finished 3rd in a group consisting of Iranian side Persepolis, Qatari club Al-Rayyan and United Arab Emirates's Al-Wahda.

"The saves from Dheeraj were very good. He needs to improve in his passing because our style is to build up (from the back). Dheeraj was playing in the national team for the U-17. He was in the Indian Super League playing so much. Now, everybody knows he is a very good goalkeeper. It is amazing to work with Dheeraj," coach Ferrando on Dheeraj.
