The current AFCON 2021 is going on with great flow as all the expected teams have gone through the group stages and now are going on to the next stage of the Tournament. Currently, half of the matches of the knockout stages have been played with 4 teams already qualified for the quarter-finals. And 4 more spots are left to be filled. However, expected teams like Ghana and Algeria saw an early group-stage exit by sitting at the bottom of the table. Followed by Nigeria and Guinea getting knocked out in the knockout stage, as predicted by the best betting sites in Nigeria. With Egypt and Senegal still in the race, the AFCON 2021 will surely have some competitive matches up ahead.

The tournament has produced a lot of winners since its beginning in 1957. Egypt was the first-ever winner of the AFCON tournament. So today we will be looking at the last five winners of the African Cup of Nations.

#5. Zambia (2012)

The year 2012 was a remarkable year for the Zambian National Team as they pulled off a fairytale triumph. Zambia's emotional success came in the final when they defeated the Ivory Coast 8-7 on penalties in Libreville. The victory was not just a victory it was more memorable for them they honored the memory of the superb Zambia side that perished in an aircraft disaster in 1993.

#4. Nigeria (2013)

Their dominating 0-1 victory over Burkina Faso has achieved the Nigerians their third AFCON title in 2013 after winning two back in 1980, 1994. Nigeria participated in the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil as the representative from CAF.

#3. Ivory Coast (2015)

Ivory Coast won the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in 23 years as they edged Ghana 9-8 on penalties following a goalless draw after extra time in the final at Estadio de Bata. This Victory for the Ivory Coast also handed coach Herve Renard the tag of becoming the first coach to win the tournament with different countries after his success with Zambia in 2012, when they edged the Ivorians in a shootout.

Cameroon came back from going 0-1 down to Egypt to win the match 2-1. A late goal through Vincent Aboubakar pushed Cameroon to glory. This is their 5th AFCON title and also they are the 2nd most successful team after Egypt. Their previous triumphs are in 1984, 1988, 2000, 2002.

Algeria was crowned AFCON champion for only the second time in its history, edging past Senegal 1-0. However, it's heartbreaking for Senegal, Which is yet to win the greatest prize in African football. An early goal from Baghdad Bounedjah ensured the Cup for Algeria, their previous triumph was in 1990.
