Ajinkya Rahane has failed to perform consistently since 2020. The situation has become so grim that he has scored only one fifty in the last 10 innings. His scores in the last 10 innings read: 27, 49, 15, 5, 1, 61, 18, 10, 14, 0. Ajinkya Rahane has the highest Test score of 61 in his last 10 Test innings. He scored his last century against Australia in December 2020. However, he was the captain in that match and scored his first century as a captain.

India’s vice-captain, Ajinkya Rahane’s recent form has raised questions over his place in India’s playing XI. He has embarrassed India in his last innings. His dismissal for a duck in the 4th test was the 7th time in the last ten innings where he failed to cross the 20-run mark. The right-handed batsman is yet to score a century since December 2020.

Rahane’s batting performance is worse than Bumrah and Shami in the series against England. He has scored just 1 half-century in his last 15 innings. It is worth mentioning that Rahane’s Test average has dropped below 40 after a couple of failures in the 4th test. In 78 Tests, Rahane’s 4,756 runs have come at an average of 39.63.

It is a matter of concern as he is no ordinary player but the vice-captain of the team. It is very hard to drop the vice-captain from a team. Although he has the backing of the team authorities, players like Hanuma Vihari and Surya Kumar Yadav are eyeing the spot to get into the team.
