It's a proud moment for Messi fans. Lionel Messi achieved the men's award for a record seventh time. Robert Lewandowski and Jorginho have taken second and third place respectively.

In the meantime, Alexia Putellas has lifted the women's trophy after an outstanding year with Barcelona.

"It's been an honour to compete with Robert Lewandowski for the Ballon d'Or, he deserved to win the award last year," claimed Messi.

Messi was thankful to his fans for receiving the Ballon d'Or for the seventh time his hands on. Messi also thanked his teammates and close ones. He hasn't been in the best of form since moving to PSG, but his role in Argentina's Copa America triumph is believed to have turned the tide in his favour ahead of Lewandowski.
