Bayern Munich vs Villarreal is the next first leg match in this year's UEFA Champions League quarter finals. Bayern Munich travel to Estadio de la Ceramica to face Unai Emery's Villarreal on Wednesday.

Bayern Munich vs Villarreal: Match Preview:

The Yellow Submarine secured a famous victory at Juventus in the last-16 to earn this visit from the 2020 European champions, who are once again en route to title glory in the Bundesliga.

RB Salzburg did provide something of a nervy contest in the previous round for Bayern, until Robert Lewandowski kicked into gear to deliver a stunning 7-1 win in Bavaria.

Ahead of the game, Munich smashed Freiburg while Villarreal have suffered back-to-back defeats on the road in LaLiga to raise question marks over Unai Emery's management of the squad.

Team News:

Villareal:

Villarreal continue to cope without long-term absentee Alberto Moreno due to his ruptured cruciate ligament, while Boulaye Dia and Samuel Chukwueze are both fitness doubts for the first leg.

Dia was left out of the squad to take on Levante due to muscular discomfort, while Chukwueze is nursing an adductor problem sustained during the international break, so the stage is set for Arnaut Danjuma and Gerard Moreno to lead the line here.

The manner of Villarreal's loss to Levante could tempt Emery into making a change or two here, especially with Serge Aurier and Pervis Estupinan both starting in the 3-0 success at Juventus.

Bayern Munich:

Meanwhile, Bayern lost midfielder Corentin Tolisso to injury just 23 minutes after the Frenchman came on as a substitute against Freiburg, and he is reportedly set for several weeks on the sidelines with that torn thigh muscle.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is COVID-positive but is nursing a knee injury anyway, while Alphonso Davies has announced that he intends to make his comeback from myocarditis in the weekend's meeting with Augsburg.

Tanguy Nianzou was given the nod against Freiburg, but the experience of Niklas Sule may be preferred at the back this week, while Nagelsmann will likely be forced to leave one of Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sane and Kingsley Coman on the bench.

Bayern Munich vs Villarreal: Head to Head:

This will be only the third meeting between the two sides. Bayern Munich enjoy a 100% record against El Submarino Amarillo.

The visiting side are the top-scoring side in the competition with 30 goals in eight games while Villarreal have scored 16 goals so far.

The two sides were drawn together in Group A during the 2011-12 edition of the competition, with the hosts failing to score in their home game which ended in a 2-0 win for the visitors.
