Spurs made it back-to-back 2-0 wins in the Premier League under the new boss Ange Postecoglou. James Maddison opened the scoring for Tottenham at the Vitality Stadium as he scored home Pape Matar Sarr's brilliant through ball in the 16th minute, his maiden Spurs goal. Then, after absorbing some pressure from the home side at the start of the second half, Dejan Kulusevski put the cherry on top, tapping home after some fine work from Destiny Udogie down the left channel. Udogie just gave his everything while creating that opportunity. It is too early to say but Spurs are looking really good under Ange Postecoglou. Premier League 2023-23: Bournemouth vs Tottenham Match Report
First Half:
On a rainy afternoon, the match started with a huge amount of intensity. Spurs looked lively right from the start and it took them just 17 minutes to get the lead. Number 10, James Maddison scored his first goal for Tottenham. After a neat build-up on the left, Sarr threaded in Maddison, and he stoked the ball home from 12 yards.
Sarr could have then doubled the lead on 22 minutes but Neto denied him with a decent save. Spurs didn't fully control the game as Bournemouth were slowly coming. But Spurs were too good. Sarr and Bissouma were controlling the midfield region and Maddison was making the most of it. Richarlison had a chance but he couldn't deliver this time either.
Second Half:
Bournemouth put Spurs under pressure at the beginning of the second half. Ange Postecoglou brought Ivan Perisic and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to get a hold of the game once again. Initially progressing well down the right, Hojbjerg recycled the ball to get Tottenham moving down the left where Perisic linked up with Udogie. The young full-back then squared across the box for Kulusevski, who tapped in from close range. Maddison should have then wrapped up all three points when he burst through the Bournemouth backline on 70 minutes, but he hit it wide.
In the closing stages, Ben Davies and Perisic created the chances but the ball was sent just off target. Bournemouth couldn't create anything threatening as Spurs earned the important three points from the fixture.
"Really happy with that. This can be a sticky, difficult place to come - I didn't have the greatest record here with my previous club – but I thought we controlled it brilliantly. I'm really happy with the goal – it was such a great move and I made a nice run, which I've been working on because I want to get more goals. I've set myself a target for goals and assists but I'm not gonna tell you what it is!"
- James Maddison
"It's been very easy to fit in, not just on the pitch. You develop relationships over the course of pre-season and on the training pitch. You pick up what traits your fellow midfielders have; Biss is great at receiving the ball in tight areas and he's press-resistant. When Pape got the ball I made the run because I know he's got the quality to find me. The second goal came at a beautiful time. It gave us a bit of breathing space and I thought we were comfortable after that."
