Chelsea vs Brentford: Match Preview

Things are going from bad to worse with each passing this season for Chelsea. The Blues are already on their fourth manager of the campaign. And Frank Lampard, who will be in charge of the West London club until the end of the season, has lost each of the four matches he has overseen thus far. The horrendous run of results has left Chelsea in the 11th spot on the Premier League table.

The Blues are a spot and five points adrift of Brentford in the standings. The Bees have enjoyed another memorable campaign thus far, once being on the longest active unbeaten streak in the Premier League. But Thomas Frank’s men have won only one of their last eight Premier League matches. And the dreadful run has sent them tumbling down the table in the last few weeks.

The reverse fixture saw Chelsea and Brentford play out a goalless stalemate, even though the two teams managed ten shots on target between themselves.

Team News:

Chelsea:

Frank Lampard confirmed in his pre-match press conference that Reece James and Mason Mount are unlikely to be seen again this season, while Kai Havertz is a short-term addition to an absentee list which already included Kalidou Koulibaly and Armando Broja.

Ben Chilwell is back available after serving his Champions League suspension but the likes of N’Golo Kante and Thiago Silva may get a rest here with next week’s game against Arsenal in mind.

Brentford:

Christian Norgaard will face a late fitness test after picking up a knock but could join Pontus Jansson, Kristoffer Ajer and Keane Lewis-Potter on the sidelines if he is not passed fit.

Chelsea vs Brentford: Head to Head:

Chelsea have a good historical record against Brentford and have won 10 out of the 18 matches played between the two teams, as opposed to Brentford’s five victories.

After a run of seven victories in eight matches against Brentford in all competitions, Chelsea are winless in their last two matches against the Bees.

Brentford have suffered defeat in six of their last eight games away from home against Chelsea in all competitions but did win this fixture by a 4-1 margin last season.

Chelsea have lost three of their last six London derby games in the Premier League – as many defeats as they had suffered in the 14 such games preceding this run.

Predicted Line-ups:

Chelsea (3-4-3): Kepa; Fofana, Chalobah, Badiashile; Loftus-Cheek, Fernandez, Kovacic, Chilwell; Mudryk, Felix, Sterling

Brentford (4-3-3): Raya; Hickey, Mee, Pinnock, Henry; Jensen, Janelt, Dasilva; Mbeumo, Toney, Damsgaard.

CHE vs BRE: Fantasy XI
