Team News: Chelsea vs Lille

Chelsea FC:

The Blues are back into the UCL clash again, the reigning champions are going to defend it once again. Chelsea’s performance in the group stages was praiseworthy yet they finished second to Juventus. However, their most highlighted match was the 3-3 draw against Zenit in the final game of group H. Chelsea however is in top form after winning the Club World Cup and maintaining a 5 match winning streak across all competitions. 

In the Premier League, Chelsea was deemed to be the favorite to win the league. However, they have slipped a bit in that mission. Looking at their recent performances Chelsea has struggled to take control of the game, but somehow managed to squeeze out the win. Their last match against Crystal Palace was a definite example where Ziyech’s last-minute goal secured all 3 points for Chelsea. Thomas Tuchel’s side now comes against last year’s Ligue 1 winner Lille, who will put up a good fight to secure their place as well.

Thankfully, no one is suspended for the upcoming clash.

Injuries/doubtful: 

Mason Mount is still struggling to recover from his ankle injury and is likely to stay out for quite some time. On the other hand, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Cesar Azpilicueta are the latest addition to the list of injuries for Chelsea.

After successive wins over Sevilla, Red Bull Salzburg and Wolfsburg stormed to the round of 16 as the group leaders. In Ligue 1, Lille is sitting at 11th with 36 points to their name. Lille In their recent 5 matches, Lille won 2 lost 2 and drew 1 match. In their last match, Lille was held to a 1-1 draw by the relegation team Metz. 

Jocelyn Gourvennec now has a big task in hand as they go against the reigning champions, Chelsea.
