David Beckham says signing Lionel Messi for Inter Miami is a dream come true.

Inter Miami 's official confirmation of Messi signifies the realisation of David Beckham's goal to cultivate top-tier soccer talent in the city. Messi's arrival is also the biggest arrival Major League Soccer has arguable ever seen.

"Ten years ago, when I started my journey to build a new team in Miami, I said that I dreamt of bringing the greatest players in the world to this amazing city. Players who shared the ambition I had when I joined LA Galaxy to help grow football in the USA and to build a legacy for the next generation in this sport that we love so much," said Beckham.

"Today, that dream came true. I couldn't be prouder that a player of Leo's caliber is joining our club, but I am also delighted to welcome a good friend, an amazing person, and his beautiful family to join our Inter Miami community. The next phase of our adventure starts here, and I can't wait to see Leo take to the pitch."

The Manchester United and Real Madrid legend has consistently pursued the development of a successful franchise with hopes of establishing an enduring legacy in Miami. Messi's arrival enhances the team's performance on the field and solidifies Inter Miami's prominence within the worldwide football scene.

The World Cup winner will be available for selection with Inter Miami for their opening match of the Leagues Cup on July 21. The inaugural North American soccer tournament brings together MLS and LIGA MX as they temporarily pause their respective league seasons from July 21 to August 19, aiming to determine the three clubs that will qualify for the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup.

Following his announcement, Messi said: "I'm very excited to start this next step in my career with Inter Miami and in the United States. This is a fantastic opportunity and together we will continue to build this beautiful project. The idea is to work together to achieve the objectives we set, and I'm very eager to start helping here in my new home."

At 36, Messi has won the Champions League four times, 10 LaLiga titles, seven Copa del Rey titles, two Ligue 1 titles, an Olympic gold medal and, more recently, the World Cup.
