In the latest football transfer news, Chelsea and Aston Villa have confirmed an agreement has been reached for the transfer of Carney Chukwuemeka.

talkSPORT understands the Blues will pay £15million plus £5m in add-ons for the highly rated 18-year-old midfielder, who turned down an offer to sign a new deal with the Villans.

He will undergo a medical in London before signing a six-year contract with the west London club.

A Chelsea statement, echoed by a Villa release word-for-word, confirmed: "Aston Villa and Chelsea can confirm that the clubs have reached an agreement for the permanent transfer of Carney Chukwuemeka.

"The 18-year-old has been given permission to travel to London to discuss both personal terms and undergo a medical."

The deal will be extra sweet for Chelsea, who have beaten Barcelona to the signing of the player with the LaLiga giants pinching the likes of Jules Kounde and Raphinha off them earlier this window.

Chukwuemeka captained England Under-19s to European Championship glory this summer, scoring three goals in the tournament including one in the final.

His displays didn't go unnoticed with The Guardian reporting that as well as Barca, AC Milan were also interested in signing Chukwuemeka, who would've been available on a free transfer to any non-Premier League club in January. However, they were put off by Villa's asking price.

Chukwuemeka, who turns 19 in October, made his first-team debut in May 2021 and last season made 13 appearances but has made just two Premier League starts.

Thomas Tuchel has already welcomed England forward Raheem Sterling and Senegal defender Kalidou Koulibaly to Chelsea this summer, while the Blues continue to work on a deal for Brighton defender Marc Cucurella.

Discussing Chukwuemeka's talent after his first senior start for Aston Villa last August, Merson told Sky Sports: 'You look at the positives for Villa, the young kid, Chukwuemeka was very good.

'He has got a bright future. I don't see a lot of the kid's football. First-half, he was outstanding. He was gliding across the pitch.

'17-years-old, you are playing in the Premier League in the centre of midfield. I mean that's a big ask.

'He will be an absolute star. He glides across the pitch. He is a nice size. He gets on the ball. He looks for it and makes runs without the ball. I think Aston Villa fans leaving the match will definitely be talking about him.'
