Football Transfer News: Randal Kolo Muani wanted by Man Utd and Bayern

In Football Transfer news, Kolo Muani has attracted interest from some of Europe's biggest clubs – with L'Équipe reporting that both Manchester United and Bayern Munich have him among their targets.

The Red Devils are said to be readying a €60m offer to bring in the Frenchman this winter. However, having only made the move across the Rhine this summer, Kolo Muani – who has five goals and eight assists this season – wants to remain in the Bundesliga for the time being.

Bayern Munich have expressed their interest to the player's entourage, although unlike the Premier League side an offer is not yet on the cards. The Bavarians would be aiming to bring him in next summer – an arrangement that would work for Eintracht Frankfurt, who want to keep hold of Kolo Muani until the end of the season at least, ahead of their Champions League tie against Napoli.

Muani saw his profile hit new heights during the World Cup as a result of his involvement with the French national team, who reached the final.

The 24 year old notably scored for Les Bleus in the semi-final against Morocco. In the final, it was his introduction that sparked France's comeback against Argentina.

Towards the end of extra time of the thrilling final, Muani had a chance to heroically win the game for France after Dayot Upamecano put him through on goal with a brilliant pass.

The Frankfurt goalscorer however could not guide the ball past Emiliano Martinez who quickly rushed out of his goal to intervene.

Bayern Munich have expressed their interest in Muani to the player's entourage.

United have an advantage over the Bundesliga giants in that unlike the Red Devils, the Bavarians are yet to make an offer or even make the consideration for doing so.

Bayern would prefer to make a move for Muani over the summer, something which aligns with Frankfurt's wishes, who are keen to hold on to the player until then.

UEFA Champions League 2024-25 Quarter-final Second Leg Round Up: Arsenal eliminate Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter, PSG through-sportzpoint.com

The second-leg matchdays of the UEFA Champions League 2024-25 Quarter-final ties have gifted us some memorable UCL nights through four of the best matches this season.

Aston Villa came back from trailing to beat Paris Saint-Germain 3-2 at home, whereas Dortmund defeated Barcelona 3-1, but both sides were knocked out on aggregate.

Arsenal kept their UCL unbeaten streak against Real Madrid intact, beating them 2-1 in the second leg, advancing to the semis. Inter Milan also shared the spoils with Bayern Munich in a 2-2 draw, but sealed their passage to the semi-finals.

Playing at their home, Villa Park, Aston Villa did not get off to a good start, letting in two goals in 30 minutes, through the PSG full-backs Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes.

Paris Saint-Germain dominated the first half, despite ending it at 2–1 as Youri Tielemans pulled one back. The second half, though, was a Villa fairy tale, netting two more goals from McGinn and Konsa and hunting for the third. Marco Asensio, late on the field, promptly made his mark, nearly scoring against his parent club.

Unfortunately, they never did achieve that goal they required, and PSG fired into the semis with a slender lead, but winning 5-4 on aggregate.

The Guirassy hat-trick could not keep this mercurial Borussia Dortmund side out. Even though FC Barcelona seemed all at sea, making mistake after mistake that we did not witness in last week's match, they were still able to keep them at bay.

They did not really begin to play like their own team until Pedri came onto the field in the later stages. Other notable players in this game were De Jong holding in the midfield and Szczesny playing like he’s in his prime. However, a Bensebaini own goal kept Barca on a two-goal cushion to safely guide them through to the semis.

"Remontada," a term that was heard being uttered repeatedly again and again with this Real Madrid team, mostly from Bellingham. However, Arsenal crushed their dream of a magical comeback with a 2-1 victory in the return leg at Bernabeu.

Arsenal performed fantastically, and Arteta is worthy of all the accolades for the display set out away at the Bernabéu. Rice performed masterfully; he was all over the pitch, marking every pass; no one was penetrating him.

Bukayo Saka failed to convert an early penalty due to a marvellous save from Courtois. However, he redeemed himself with the opening goal in the 65th minute, but it was canceled out after Vinicius scored the equalizer only two minutes later.

Gabriel Martinelli netted the winner in injury time, leading Arsenal to another win against Real Madrid and keeping their unbeaten record against Los Blancos in the UCL intact.

Inter Milan 2-2 Bayern Munich (AGG 4-3)

Image

Bayern Munich played pretty much the majority of the second leg on the back foot, but Inter Milan held them to a chilling 2-2 draw at home. Lautaro Martinez had enough opportunities, showed some lovely dibbles, and obviously scored; all of these earned him the man of the match award.

Kane did everything in his power, but it was just not good enough, and it's disappointing to see this Bayern side leave, particularly because it's Müller's final Champions League campaign with the side.

It was Kane who opened the scoring, but two back-to-back strikes from Lautaro and Pavard put Inter at the top again. Eric Dier scored the equalizer from a tough angle, but the Bavarians failed to score another to equalize the tie — better to say, Inter Milan defended masterfully!

Full-time | Inter Milan 2-2 Bayern Munich (AGG 4-3)

It’s all over and Inter edge through 4-3 on aggregate, after the two previous two-legged ties between these two clubs finished 3-3. Once again, it was a tight contest, with Inter trailing and then leading before Dier’s header made it 2-2 on the night. Ultimately, Pavard’s header against his old club is what separates the sides overall, and it’s the Italian side who will face Barcelona in the last four.

Bayern will be without Jamal Musiala for the rest of the season, which opens the door for Raphael Guerreiro to potentially start as the number 10 again after his impressive performance off the bench against Dortmund. Although Thomas Müller scored after being introduced from the bench last week, Guerreiro's contribution may earn him a starting spot.

Young goalkeeper Jonas Urbig will start again as Manuel Neuer's return date has been pushed back to the end of April at the earliest. The team is also facing a number of absentees in defense, with Alphonso Davies, Dayot Upamecano, and Hiroki Ito all sidelined due to injury.

Serge Gnabry is putting pressure on Leroy Sané for a starting position after scoring off the bench in the recent draw against Dortmund. However, it is likely that coach Vincent Kompany will stick with Sané in this match, especially with Kingsley Coman also available for selection.

Inzaghi made minor rotations to his Inter team over the weekend, allowing players like Marcus Thuram, Alessandro Bastoni, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan to rest in preparation for the second leg.

Mehdi Taremi has returned from a muscle injury and was on the bench for the match against Cagliari, while Kristjan Asllani will also be available again after serving a European suspension. However, both are expected to start as substitutes.

Piotr Zielinski and Denzel Dumfries remain sidelined due to injuries. Additionally, Inzaghi faces a decision at left wing-back, as Federico Dimarco has regained full fitness, but Carlos Augusto is currently playing exceptionally well.

What happened in the first leg?

An electric game ended in Inter Milan's favour as the Italian club scored a late winner to earn a 2-1 away victory over Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.

Cesare Augusto and Marcus Thuram combined to set up a beautiful trivela goal from Lautaro Martinez, the Nerrazzuri skipper, in the 38th minute. Inter led at the break, but after a couple of wasted opportunities from both sides, Thomas Muller pulled off the equalizer for Bayern in the 85th minute, only ten minutes after coming off the bench.

Manchester United are reportedly preparing for a massive summer signing as they eye the services of star Olympique Lyonnais forward Rayan Cherki.

The Red Devils are interested in strengthening their squad, and they have now joined the race to sign the gifted French under-21 forward, after it was reported that Lyon is willing to sell the player for approximately £20 million.

In a difficult ongoing campaign this season, Manchester United have registered a record low point total in the Premier League, sitting on 38 points.

With only 6 games remaining to play for, the call for new talent has never been greater inside the club. Cherki, widely considered one of the most talented players in the world at this moment, has been identified as a top target for the club's Portuguese manager, Ruben Amorim.

The various reports point out Cherki's great talent and his undeniable potential to shape games at the highest level. He has performed marvelously on the field in this season alone, achieving great statistics that would upgrade any team.

Cherki's display has attracted United's scouting department, particularly with the Red Devils' own challenges in creativity and attacking potency.

At only the age of 21, Rayan Cherki has already become a familiar name in French and world football, and this season was his coming-out party.

His record of 13 goals from 23 appearances for France's U-21 team says volumes about his talent. Although Manchester United is still keen on signing him, the negotiating table will have to wait until the next summer transfer window, especially after facing Lyon in the Europa League.

By the way, Cherki's last-minute equalizer in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League quarter-final matchup saved Lyon a 2-2 draw at home against United last week.

With Cherki catching headlines in Ligue 1, only time will tell how Lyon will deal with a possible transfer. United's desire is obvious, and if properly negotiated, Cherki's signing at Old Trafford may commence a new era for the club's attacking prowess.

Thomas Hitzlsperger, renowned as 'Der Hammer', departed Aston Villa to change sides with VfB Stuttgart in July 2005 on a free transfer.

However, he returned to England five years later, signing with West Ham United in July 2010 and spending most of 2012/13 at Everton.

Bournemouth: Jefferson Lerma

Even though Lerma's exit was hardly convenient for Bournemouth in the build-up to returning to the top flight, it was a huge loss for them.

He was a key figure in the Cherries' midfield and has proved to be an inspirational free transfer recruit for Crystal Palace in July 2023.

Brentford: Christian Eriksen

The former Tottenham Hotspur midfield maestro was forced out of Serie A following his cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 and Brentford gave him a return to the Premier League, which was absolutely ideal in all respects.

Though he was desperate to retain him beyond the six-month deal he signed in January 2022, Brentford were unable to persuade Eriksen to put pen to paper, and the midfielder joined Manchester United.

Brighton: Jose Izquierdo

Jose Izquierdo departed Brighton to join Club Brugge in the Summer of 2021 on a free transfer.

The Colombian winger's stay in Belgium, however, was brief, as he retired in 2022 soon after being released by Brugge.

Chelsea: Antonio Rudiger

Thiago Silva, Andreas Christensen, Willian, Joe Cole, Michael Ballack, N'Golo Kante, Hernan Crespo, Nicolas Anelka, Andriy Shevchenko… Chelsea have a long list in this context to choose from.

Missing out on a top Antonio Rudiger would have hurt, though. The German centre-back was at Stamford Bridge for five years before he was roped in by Real Madrid in the Summer of 2022.

Crystal Palace: Wilfried Zaha

Zaha is undoubtedly Palace's all-time best player. He departed when his deal ran out in the summer of 2023, signing for Turkish giants Galatasaray in a bold switch for Champions League action.

After years of transfer rumors that had him joining Arsenal, Zaha failed to sparkle in Turkey and was sent out on loan to French club Lyon after one season. That did not quite work out either, and he is now playing for Charlotte FC in the MLS.

Everton: Wayne Rooney

Not the first time, as that was for a transfer fee, but the second time, Wayne Rooney departed Everton is likely their biggest Bosman loss of the Premier League era.

Rooney netted a staggering ten goals in 30 league games in 2017/18. His departure from Goodison Park was not only felt, but his arrival in America to play for D.C. United was shocking as well.

Fulham: Tosin Adarabioyo

Fulham messed up by allowing Moussa Dembele to move to Celtic, but that is a regret rather than a huge transfer. Tosin Adarabioyo departed the Cottagers for London rivals Chelsea in the summer of last year, during his peak years.

Ipswich: Sylvain Legwinski

Sylvain Legwinski, a former French midfielder, left Ipswich Town following the 2007/08 season and did not join a club until April of the following year before having a couple of months at St. Neots Town.

Leicester City: Youri Tielemans

Caglar Soyuncu was a tragic loss, but nothing is close to Tielemans' departure at the end of the 2022/23 season.

The Belgian departed a club legend, having left with his FA Cup final goal in 2021. He was reportedly linked to Arsenal for ages before ending up with Aston Villa. Having had a struggling first year with Unai Emery, Tielemans is once again one of the top midfielders in the Premier League.

Liverpool: Georginio Wijnaldum

Liverpool lost Wijnaldum to Paris Saint-Germain in a 2021 summer transfer window that also saw the signings of Lionel Messi, Gianluigi Donnarumma, and Sergio Ramos. It is little wonder that Wijnaldum's signing was overshadowed.

Manchester City: Ilkay Gundogan

Alongside Erling Haaland and KDB, Gundogan was likely City's most crucial player in their Treble-winning 2022/23 season, with his final task as City captain being to hold aloft the Champions League trophy.

But after a year at his dream destination, Barcelona, the German midfielder renewed his connection to City, signing for the club in 2024.

Manchester United: Paul Pogba

Pogba's experience at Manchester United was marred by debate. On His Day, he was a world beater. For the Red Devils' misfortune, he was quite literally only ever On His Day for France.

The best part of it all is that Man United let Pogba join Juventus for nothing in 2012, re-signed him for a world-record £89 million four years later, and then let him join Juventus for another free transfer in 2022.

Newcastle United: Jonas Gutierrez

Gutierrez's departure in 2015 was typical of what Newcastle were like under Mike Ashley's ownership.

The Argentine preserved the Magpies in the Premier League after returning to the squad after suffering from cancer and wound up being let go over the telephone by John Carver.

Nottingham Forest: Stuart Pearce

Following being at the club for 12 years, Pearce left on a Bosman move in 1997.

It was a miserable last season for Pearce, who took caretaker player-manager duties after Frank Clark's resignation. The job eventually shared with Dave Bassett, Forest slipped and a 35-year-old Pearce desired to be released, whereupon he became Newcastle United.

Southampton: Stuart Armstrong

Stuart Armstrong departed from Southampton on a free transfer in September 2024 and signed for the Vancouver Whitecaps.

His contract at Southampton had run out at an earlier stage that summer. He was then signed as a Designated Player by the Whitecaps.

Tottenham Hotspur: Sol Campbell

The greatest free transfer in Premier League history. The 'Big Sol' called an unexpected press conference, revealing his incredible transfer from Spurs to Arsenal in 2001, leaving everyone in sheer shock.

Campbell had already informed fans that he was remaining but rejected the opportunity to become the Spurs' best-paid player to achieve his ambition of playing in the Champions League. There was nothing to suggest Arsenal were even in the running for his signature, but stunned reporters watched the sensational and iconic unveiling.

Campbell went on to become an Arsenal legend and an integral part of the Arsenal Invicibles.

West Ham: Ben Johnson

West Ham lost their academy gem, defender Ben Johnson, to Ipswich Town on a free transfer in July 2024.

Wolves: Adama Traore

The Adama's future was the subject for ages' worth of talk. Spurs were in the running for a while, and most expected a switch to a big club when his Wolves deal ran out in 2023. Unfortunately, he signed for Fulham.

Wolves might have received a reasonable price for the Spanish midfielder but were unfortunate to lose him on a free transfer.

However, Inter did not get startled and snatched a late winner in the 88th minute through Davide Frattesi's flashy strike in the 88th minute following another brilliant Augusto set up.

Inter Milan will welcome Bayern Munich at the San Siro Stadium in Milan on 17 April.

FC Barcelona rampaged over Borussia Dortmund at the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium, crushing them 4-0 to practically book their berth in the semis.

Raphinha scored a cheeky goal in the 25th minute of the game as the Catalan side led 1-0 at the break. However, the floodgates opened in the second half, with Lewandowski scoring a goal in the 48th minute and completing his brace in the 66th minute. Lamine Yamal netted the fourth one for Barca in the 77th minute, securing a massive lead in the tie.

Paris Saint-Germain came from behind to put three past Aston Villa, securing a 3-1 lead in the first leg at the Parc des Princes in Paris.

PSG showed a proper dominance over Villa throughout the match, despite Morgan Rogers drawing the first blood in the 35th minute. Desire Doue, the 19-year-old PSG wonderkid, netted the equalizer only four minutes later with a sublime long-ranger strike.

The game remained all square at the break, but Khvicha Kvaratskhelia handed PSG the lead in the only four minutes into the second half. Nuno Mendes secured a two-goal lead in the tie with a marvellous finish in the dying moments of the game.
