Igor Štimac's team last participated in the King's Cup in 2019, where they finished third. After losing 1–3 to Curaçao in the semi-finals, the Blue Tigers defeated Thailand 1–0 to win the bronze medal. This will be the fourth time India will be participating in the tournament since 1977, 1981, and 2019. India, Thailand, Iraq, and Lebanon are the four teams that will participate this year.

King's Cup is an annual tournament, which was founded in 1968. Hosts Thailand are the most successful side in the competition with 15 titles to their name, whereas Tajikistan are the reigning champions after they won the cup in 2022 by defeating Malaysia on penalties.

The King's Cup follows a simple format as only four teams participate. Each team plays a match against one of the other teams based on the draws. The winning teams then proceed to the final, whereas the losing teams get to prove themselves in the third-place match. A maximum of five substitutions are allowed, and teams move directly to penalties in case of a draw after 90 minutes of play.
