It seems like we write this every week but take a bow, Lionel Messi.

The Paris Saint-Germain ace has found the net once again after scoring the opener against Benfica in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The goal, which was brilliantly set up by Kylian Mbappé and Neymar, means the former Barcelona man has put yet another team to the sword.

Lionel Messi on Wednesday became the first player to score against 40 different opponents in the UEFA Champions League, with Benfica the latest to be added to his list.

The Argentine striker also has now scored in his sixth straight game in all competitions for club and country.

Cristiano Ronaldo only has 38.

Messi opened the scoring midway through the first half against Benfica after a link-up play involving Kylian Mbappe and Neymar before a trademark curling left-foot finish from the edge of the box.

Paris Saint-Germain had to settle for a 1-1 draw at Benfica after struggling for long spells in their Champions League game Wednesday despite another well-struck goal from Lionel Messi.

Benfica leveled before halftime thanks to an own goal from Danilo Pereira.

PSG had the upper hand in the second half as Vlachodimos produced a couple of good saves to deny Achraf Hakimi and Mbappé's efforts.

PSG and Benfica both won their opening two matches in Group H and have seven points. Juventus is in third place, four points off the pace, ahead of last-place Maccabi Haifa with zero.

Just last week, Messi became third on list of most goals in men's international history when he scored in Argentina's 3-0 win over Jamaica.

He's behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Ali Daei. Messi now has 90 goals in 164 appearances for Argentina. He is also second, behind Ronaldo, on the list of top active international goalscorers and is followed by India captain Sunil Chhetri, who has 84 goals in 131 matches.
