Noah Darvich: The next Barcelona wonderkid, all you need to know

Noah Darvich is already well-known in scouting circles, the attacking midfielder has quite the reputation and his development in Catalonia will be well worth keeping an eye on.

Darvich has been making waves in German football for a while. He joined Freiburg in 2017 and has impressed playing for the youth teams.

The 16-year-old is an attacking midfielder who can play in a variety of positions, and his signing will be seen as something of a coup.

Manchester City, Arsenal and PSG have previously been linked with Darvich but it seems the Catalan giants have won the race.

There are no figures mentioned but it seems Barca will play a small fee for Darvich. His contract at Freiburg was due to expire in 2024.

Darvich will be another exciting youngster to watch out for at Barcelona and the Catalans will be hoping he can progress through the ranks and into the first team.

He is expected to move to Barca Atletic in principle for the first year as he joins the Rafa Marquez-led team while looking to make an impression on first-team coach Xavi Hernandez.

We've collated everything you need to know about Barcelona's latest rising star.

The story so far:

Born a couple of months after Germany hosted the 2006 World Cup in a small town just south of Freiburg, Darvich joined the city's youth ranks as a child and has steadily developed his talents through his teenage years. He's of Iraqi descent and eligible to play for Iraq.

Hailing from the same region as Jurgen Klopp, Germany's Black Forest, Darvich quickly caught the attention of the German FA and has received national team call-ups at Under-16 and Under-17s levels.

In May, it was reported that Arsenal were closely monitoring the youngster. At the time, Darvich was making a name for himself with a starring role as the captain in Germany's Under-17 European Championship triumph in Hungary.

He scored Germany's first goal of the tournament in a 4-0 victory over Portugal, and they never let up from there. They won all three group stage matches, scoring 10 goals, and Darvich was a near ever-present throughout their run to lifting the trophy, though he did miss Germany's first penalty of their shootout victory over France in the final.

The youth tournament was also notable for the performances of La Masia starlet Lamine Yamal, who shone with four goals for Spain. The prospect of the pair of them, regarded as two of the outstanding players in their age group in Europe, linking up at Barcelona is certainly an exciting one.

As Darvich's stock grew, it had been suggested in the press that Freiburg became increasingly resigned to losing one of their top talents. Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and at least one other Premier League club besides Arsenal were all tracking the 16-year-old, but it appears as though Barcelona have won the race for his signature.

GOAL report that Barcelona will pay in the region of €3million. He's into the final year of his current deal with his boyhood club, which partly explains the low fee.

Noah Darvich: Style of play

Darvich is left-footed and has been described as a hybrid attacker, with the ability to play a number of advanced positions. As well as feature on his natural left side, the teenager is able to drift in from the right or play as more of a playmaker in a central area.

His profile and outstanding technical ability makes him a classic candidate to join the storied youth ranks of Barcelona, while it's also no surprise that he was reportedly seen as a natural fit to join Mikel Arteta's Arsenal.

Given his age and relative inexperience, any kind of prominent first-team role in Xavi Hernandez's La Liga champions appears unlikely in the upcoming season. It's expected that he'll join Rafa Marquez's Barca Atletic side and spend the foreseeable future getting further acquainted with the possession-focused style that Barcelona are famous for playing and drilling into their academy prospects.

However, Pedri – who joined at the age of 17 from Las Palmas – has demonstrated there's a pathway for youthful new arrivals. Yamal became Barcelona's youngest-ever debutant last season, so there could certainly be opportunities on the horizon for Darvich.

What's been said about Noah Darvich:

Football Talent Scout gave Darvich a 9/10 potential rating and said he's an "extremely skillful and intelligent player, who likes to have the ball at his feet, where he is able to make the difference at any time with his dribbling skills and ability to play the final ball" and  "a spectacular dribbler with futsal-esque close control, who is able to make effective solo runs to beat the defensive line."

"He is a good dribbler with very good technique. He is very creative" Nicklas Scheifers, journalist for Fussball Transfers, told Foot Mercato.

"The SC Freiburg midfielder was brilliant against Portugal, was decisive against France and closed the group as a star in this first round against Scotland," a report from Marca stated during his Under-17 Euros.

"For PSG and for the 'talent scouts' of the giants of the English Premier League it is not a surprise: they have been following their evolution for a long time. In Germany, clubs like Bayern know him perfectly. The '10' of the German team does not go unnoticed due to vision of the game, technical resources, physical splendour and personality, he is the captain for a reason."

Arsenal will travel to Real Madrid for the return leg encounter at the Santiago Bernabeu on April 17th.

An electric game ended in Inter Milan's favour as the Italian club scored a late winner to earn a 2-1 away victory over Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.

Cesare Augusto and Marcus Thuram combined to set up a beautiful trivela goal from Lautaro Martinez, the Nerrazzuri skipper, in the 38th minute. Inter led at the break, but after a couple of wasted opportunities from both sides, Thomas Muller pulled off the equalizer for Bayern in the 85th minute, only ten minutes after coming off the bench.

However, Inter did not get startled and snatched a late winner in the 88th minute through Davide Frattesi's flashy strike in the 88th minute following another brilliant Augusto set up.

Inter Milan will welcome Bayern Munich at the San Siro Stadium in Milan on 17 April.

Paris Saint-Germain came from behind to put three past Aston Villa, securing a 3-1 lead in the first leg at the Parc des Princes in Paris.

PSG showed a proper dominance over Villa throughout the match, despite Morgan Rogers drawing the first blood in the 35th minute. Desire Doue, the 19-year-old PSG wonderkid, netted the equalizer only four minutes later with a sublime long-ranger strike.

The game remained all square at the break, but Khvicha Kvaratskhelia handed PSG the lead in the only four minutes into the second half. Nuno Mendes secured a two-goal lead in the tie with a marvellous finish in the dying moments of the game.

Barcelona are themselves in scintillating form, remaining unbeaten in 22 games, having won 18, but they were restricted to a 1-1 home draw against Real Betis at the weekend.

A quadruple is still within reach for Barcelona, who have already won the Spanish Super Cup, and reached the Copa del Rey final after their 5-4 aggregate victory over Atletico Madrid last midweek.

The Catalan side have already faced the Black and Yellow Army on their road to the UCL quarters this season, as they salvaged a thrilling 3-2 win over Dortmund in the league phase game at Signal Iduna Park. Ferran was the saviour for Barca, scoring two late goals after Serhou Guirassy had equalised twice for BVB.

The catalan side will be confident of taking the initiative back to Germany next week, with the aim of reaching a first semi since 2019.

Barca have never lost in five previous meetings with Dortmund, and manager Hansi Flick has a perfect 100% record against them, with six wins from six across his time with Bayern, including the league phase success.

Hansi Flick will have to exclude Dani Olmo who suffered a recent injury, along with long-standing absentees Marc Casado, Marc Bernal and Marc Andre Ter Stegen. Inigo Martinez is also doubtful for the game tonight, though he is expected to return, but if will be suspended in the return leg if he gets booked.

Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund cannot be casted out against Barcelona tonight, because even though they are experiencing a terrible domestic season, the Yellow-Blacks have been a power in Europe in recent years.

Dortmund's sole knockout-stage loss in their past eight was last year's final at Wembley to Real Madrid, and Dortmund have won three consecutive away matches in such games.

It is a positive thing that their form in Europe is still good, as winning this tournament will definitely be the only way back into the competition for Niko Kovac's team next season.

However, there is a long list of absentees for Niko Kovac's side; that might limit his options on the bench. Pascal Gross is suspended for this game, whereas Filippo Mane, Marcel Sabitzer, Nico Schlotterbeck, Cole Campbell, Ayman Azhil and Kjell-Arik WΓ€tjen are all sidelined due to different injury concerns. Niklas SΓΌle is also doubtful.

Maximilian Beier, Ramy Bensebaini, Yan Couto, and Julian Ryerson are in danger as well, as they will miss out the second leg if they receive any bookings tonight.

Head-to-head Stats (In UCL)

Barcelona are unbeaten in their five meetings with Borussia Dortmund in European competition (W3 D2), including a victory over them earlier in this season’s UEFA Champions League (3-2). Only against Lyon (8), Napoli (6) and Werder Bremen (6) have they played more in Europe without losing.

Across his spells with Bayern Munich and current club Barcelona, Hansi Flick has won all six of his meetings with Borussia Dortmund; his best 100% record against an opponent in this period. His sides have averaged three goals per game against them (18 in total), and netted at least three goals in five of the six matches.

Barcelona reportedly set €15 million price tag for Ansu Fati

The possibility of Ansu Fati leaving FC Barcelona in the summer of 2025 appears increasingly likely, as the club has reportedly set a €15 million asking price for the out-of-favor forward.

The future of Ansu Fati at FC Barcelona has become clearer than ever as the out-of-favour youngster is adamant about leaving the club this summer.

Having been hailed as the natural heir to club legend Lionel Messi and wearing the coveted number 10 shirt, the 22-year-old forward has suffered a sad decline this season.

Since Hansi Flick took over at the club, Fati has been on the bench far more than playing on the field, which created a distressing situation for the club as well as for the player.

Deco, Barca's sporting director, is reportedly trying to neutralize this season, considering the ongoing regrets at the club for not having seen Fati's full talent due to injury. However, the solution is clear β€” he needs to be sold, and on a minimum transfer fee of €15 million

This figure would appear too small for a player who was once being hailed as the next big thing, but with time and inconsistent play, much of his value has drastically declined.

Fati seeks exit from Barcelona

Although his loan spell at Brighton in the Premier League was seen as a new beginning to his career, the season has been very disappointing for Ansu Fati. The forward has openly admitted that he is no longer part of Flick's plans and is now seeking alternative options to salvage his career.

Sources close to the player indicate that he wants a sporting project where he feels valued, gets back to consistency, and above all, can enjoy playing football again. Only 22 years old, Fati knows that he still has time to play at his ultimate level again, but the first step is to identify a club that truly believes in his potential.

However, since the Copa del Rey RO32 game against Barbastro on January 4th, he has failed to earn any game time, even for a single minute.

Fati's contract at Barcelona runs until 2027, but he is already thinking of a departure next summer. This was an option he thought of during the last winter transfer window in January, but after discussions with Hansi Flick, he chose to stay with the team, hopeful that he would be given his opportunity.

In January, several clubs expressed interest in Ansu Fati’s willingness to change his surroundings. Clubs such as Ajax, Borussia Dortmund, Porto, and Besiktas all attempted to convince the Spaniard to join their sides, reported Mundo Deportivo.

Fati is also frustrated with some things that are no longer in Flick's control but are subject to the club instead. For example, in a few training sessions, he has been the top performer in numerous instances, yet he has watched other players being featured on Barcelona's social media while he is barely being mentioned.

Despite his current setbacks, Ansu Fati still draws attention from several clubs. LaLiga teams have enquired about his availability, and Premier League teams are keeping an eye too, lured by the low price tag for a player once considered one of Europe's brightest rising stars.

Sevilla, Villareal, and Real Betis have done the groundwork to potentially sign the winger, either through a loan deal or through a permanent transfer.

English teams, including West Ham and Everton, have apparently agreed to negotiate with them, especially if Barcelona are willing to have favorable terms like variable fees on the transfer price or a loan deal with a compulsory buy.

Deco is aware of the financial situation at the club; he doesn't want to go through a low-cost sale. However, he considers that bids of 30 or 40 million euros are now not on the table. What the target is, though, is to negotiate a sale of no less than 15 million euros, which will assist in relaxing the wage bill and creating liquidity without inflicting massive financial damage.

In conclusion, Ansu Fati’s chapter at FC Barcelona is edging closer to a painful end. Although the ending is not as dreamlike as hoped, Barcelona have faith that he can rediscover his best form elsewhere. His talent is still very much unutilized; he only needs the right environment to shine once more.

Liverpool are currently atop the Premier League 2024-25 table, having bagged 73 points in 30 matches. The Reds are edging closer to the title as Arsenal, the second-placed side, dropped points against Everton in a 1-1 stalemate yesterday.

Liverpool have a chance to extend their lead at the top with a win against Fulham this evening, which will see them going 14 points ahead of the Gunners.

The Mikel Arteta-led side has earned 62 points in 31 games so far. As of now, Liverpool only need 11 points from their last eight games to secure the Premier League title for the 20th time in their history.

Nottingham Forest have been a surprise entrant for a top-four finish in the Premier League, charging for a UEFA Champions League berth next season. The Forest are now third with 57 points in 31 games – five points clear of the fourth-placed Chelsea.

Fifth-placed Manchester City (51 points in 30 games) and Aston Villa (51 points in 31 games), now sixth, will throw a tough challenge for the Champions League and Europa League berth, whereas seventh-placed Newcastle United (50 points in 29 games) might surpass City and Villa in the race.

The title race in LaLiga 2024-25 has intensified dramatically after the league leaders FC Barcelona and nearest challengers Real Madrid dropped points in the same day yesterday. Los Blancos faced a shocking 1-2 defeat against Valencia at home, whereas Barcelona were held to a 1-1 draw against Real Betis at home.

Barcelona are currently atop the table with 67 points in 30 matches, four points clear of Real Madrid with 63 points in the same number of games. The title race might go down to the last matchday as these two teams will meet in the fierce El Clasico, scheduled for May 11th, which could decide the potential champions.

Fourth-placed Athletic Bilbao (53 points in 29 games) are already five points ahead of Real Betis, now fifth (48 points in 30 games) with one game in hand. Sixth-placed Villareal (47 points in 28 games) could pose a challenge for both of them for UCL and UEL qualification, with two games in hand to match Betis' tally.

Serie A 2024-25 might witness one of the greatest showdowns in the title charge in the league's history, as league leaders Inter Milan dropped points in a 2-2 draw against Parma last night.

Defending champions Inter Milan are currently topping the table with 68 points across 31 games, having played one game more than second-placed Napoli, who have accumulated 64 points in 30 games. If Napoli ends this week with a win, the gap between these two teams will be just one, leading the teams to walk the wire in the final matchdays.

The pressure to finish in the top four have also intensified in Italy. With Inter and Napoli confirmed to finish in the top four, third-placed Atalanta (58 points in 30 games), fourth-placed Bologna (56 points in 30 games), fifth-placed Juventus (55 points in 30 games), and sixth-placed AS Roma (52 points in 30 games) will battle it out for the last two UCL berths.

As of now, only six points separate league leaders Bayern Munich and second-placed Bayer Leverkusen, though Bayern might attain the Bundesliga 2024-25 title and a first trophy for Harry Kane – if they manage to accumulate 13 from the 18 points available.

Bayern Munich are now ahead with 68 points in 28 games, whereas reigning Champions Bayer Leverkusen have managed 62 in the same number of matches, practically confirming their participation in next season's Champions League.

However, the race for two other UCL berths will draw Eintracht Frankfurt (third, 48 points in 28 games), FSV Mainz (fourth, 46 points in 28 games), RB Leipzig (fifth, 45 points in 28 games), and Borussia Monchengladbach (sixth, 43 points in 27 games) into a battle, looking for places in continental competitions.

Paris Saint-Germain have claimed the 2024-25 Ligue 1 title after beating Angers 1-0 last night, ensuring their fourth successive title with 74 points in 28 games. The Luis Enrique-managed side have been crowned champions with six matches remaining and are now 24 points ahead of the second-placed AS Monaco (50 points in 28 matches).

PSG have clinched another milestone, winning the league title without losing a single game so far, and with six matches remaining, they will look to embrace the 'invincible' tag by ending the season without a single defeat.

If Les Parisiens complete an unbeaten league season, they will join a special group of clubs from Europe's top five leagues that have achieved this feat. This group includes Bayer Leverkusen in 2024, Juventus in 2012, Arsenal in 2004, AC Milan in 1992, Perugia in 1979, and Preston North End in 1889.

However, the race to qualify for next season's UCL will go down to the wire between six teams who are differentiated by only four points – AS Monaco (50), Olympique de Marseille (49), Olympique Lyonnais (48), OGC Nice (47), Lille OSC (47), and RC Strasbourg (46).
