Odisha FC registered their first-ever win in the Indian Super League against Mohun Bagan Super Giant. 10 men Odisha held on to their lead and finished the home leg with a narrow victory over the 10 men Mariners. Carlos Delgado and Roy Krishna's first-half goals were enough for the Kalinga Warriors to win the first leg of the ISL 2023-24 semi-final at home.
Manvir Singh scored early to give the visitors an early lead but it didn't take Odisha much of a time to make a comeback into the game. Carlos Delgado made the scoreline level. Ahmed Jahouh's cross from the corner and Vishal Kaith misjudged it completely. Delgado was at the perfect position and he made no mistake in putting the ball into the back of the goal.
The visitors were creating lots of opportunities and enjoyed the possession but the home side stuck to their game plan and it helped them throughout the game. Odisha relied on counters and the second goal came right that way.
Amrinder played Roy Krishna through a brilliant ball and the former MBSG forward beat Hector Yuste before putting the ball into the back of the net. He didn't celebrate against his former team but it was a huge blow for Mohun Bagan and they couldn't make a comeback after this.
The second half was expected to be more intense but Odisha and Mohun Bagan both conceded red cards and narrowed down to 10 men. Carlos Delgado and Armando Sadiku both saw their second yellows of the match and now are set to miss the second leg. Both teams tried to create some chances but neither of them could take those chances and the first leg finished 2-1 in favour of Odisha. The second leg will be played on 28th April at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.
