Barcelona announced on Thursday that Pau Cubarsi has penned his contract extension after meeting the club President Joan Laporta at the club headquarters.
Cubarsi commits to stay at Barcelona until 2029
The young center-back, who graduated from the renowned La Masia, has solidified his position in the team across the last two seasons. Showing a strong mentality and immaculate defensive ability, Cubarsi has become a key player for the Blaugranas.
The long-anticipated renewal highlights Barcelona's confidence in Cubarsi, who has made a remarkable entrance into the senior team. He has established himself as a key asset for the current manager, Hansi Flick, just as he was under his predecessor, Xavi Hernández.

Xavi gave Cubarsí his first-team debut on January 18, 2024, during a Copa del Rey match against Unionistas Salamanca. At that time, Cubarsí was just 16 years, 11 months, and 27 days old. Since then, he has participated in 59 games more donning the Barca colours.

Cubarsi's impressive maturity on the pitch despite his age, along with praiseworthy abilities earned him a Spanish national team call-up in 2024. He marked his debut on March 22nd, 2024 in a FIFA friendly against Colombia.
However, he was excluded from the Spanish team for the 2024 EURO but won the Olympic Gold medal with Spain in the Paris Olympics in 2024.
Although Cubarsi signed a previous contract extension with Barca in May 2024; confirming to stay at the club until 2027, now he has signed for a two-year renewal, showing his love and commitment to the club.
Official statement from FC Barcelona
FC Barcelona and the player Pau Cubarsí have agreed a contract extension that sees him set to stay with the Club until 30 June 2029.
The Blaugrana defender signed his new contract today at midday alongside FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta, first vice-president Rafa Yuste, and the Club's director of football, Anderson Luis de Souza "Deco".
13 months since debut
The Catalan's contact extension again shows the Club is committed to keep promoting the young talent coming out of La Masia. Only recently turning 18 years old, he also already played 60 games for the first team. These have all come in just over a year since the Copa del Rey match against Unionistas on that cold 18 January evening in Salamanca in 2024.
It was clear that Cubarsí was a special player from that moment onwards. Not only he is a resolute defender, which goes with the territory, but he reads the game very well and can play line-breaking passes worthy of the best midfielders. Cubarsí is 100% Barça, and he is set to remain so for many years more.
