The World Cup 2022 is around the corner with just a year left for it to begin. With the opening date set to 21 November 2022 to December 18, 2022. However, the end of the qualification is just a few matches away. Once the Qatar World Cup qualifiers are over, a total of 32 teams will participate in the finals next year, which will mark the first time of the tournament in the Middle East (Qatar).
How the 32 teams are participating?
32 teams are going to be into eight groups of four. Out of which 31 nations will play head-to-head alongside host Qatar through their regional World Cup qualifiers qualifying matches. The teams will join as per their confederation that follows:
Africa (CAF): 5 teams
Asia (AFC): 4 teams will join, plus 1 playoff qualifier
Europe (UEFA): 13 participants
North/Central America & Caribbean (CONCACAF): 3 teams will participate, plus 1 playoff qualifier
Oceania (OFC): 1 playoff qualifier
South America (CONMEBOL): 4 teams will join, plus 1 playoff qualifier
What are the teams that qualified for the World Cup 2022 Qatar?
As of now, Only six teams have officially qualified for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, including the host nation. This means that 26 remaining spots are there to occupy in the coming months.
With Qatar as the Host nation, Germany and Denmark are the first two European countries that have secured their spot at the World Cup 2022 with 2 more qualification matches in hand. Brazil is the only team from South America as of now with five matches left. France and Belgium are the latest entries from Europe. On 14th November, Spain, Croatia, and Serbia became the next three teams to secure their place in the World Cup. England and Switzerland also have fixed their spot for the main tournament. Argentina is the latest South American team to qualify. The Netherlands is the final team from Europe to get the direct qualification into the main tournament. Iran and South Korea are the latest addition to the main event from AFC.
The teams in the playoff round are - Portugal, Sweden, Italy, Ukraine, Wales, Scotland, Turkey, Russia, Poland, North Macedonia, Austria, and The Czech Republic. With 10 teams already qualified, only 3 spots are left to fill up.
