Russian Football Federation stated that it will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the decisions of FIFA and UEFA. FIFA and UEFA decided to expel Russian national teams from the upcoming 2022 World Cup and also other international competitions after Russia invaded Ukraine.

The Russian football federation said that they are going to file a lawsuit against both the governing bodies. Its purpose is to allow the Russian teams to allow in competing in various recognized tournaments including the World Cup. FIFA previously mentioned that Russia will play under the 'Football Union or Russia' name, but without their flag or anthem at matches. Later, FIFA announced a joint statement with UEFA and said that they will not permit Russia in the competitions.

Russia was supposed to play against Poland in a World Cup qualifier. And then with the winner of the tie-playing either Sweden or the Czech Republic for a spot at the finals. Presently, all these three teams rejected to play against Russia.
