Kuwait will face eight times champion India in the final of the SAFF Championship 2023 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bangalore. They defeated Bangladesh by 1-0 in the Semi-Final 1 to get their place in the final of this tournament. Kuwait head coach Rui Bento wants his players to enjoy every moment and to win the trophy for Kuwait.
The Bengaluru stadium is all set to host the action-packed final between India and Kuwait from 7:30 P.M. (IST) tomorrow. India defeated Lebanon on penalties (4-2) in the 2nd Semi-Final to qualify for the final of this competition. The Indian team would like to defend the title and win it for the record 9th time. On the other side, Kuwait hasn't won a single international trophy for quite some time. They want to give their everything too but the disadvantage India have is that their coach will be not on the sidelines. Kuwait is a very strong team to face and India know that pretty well. Both the teams played a draw when they met in their last group game.
The coach was asked if his team will have an added advantage as they have already played against India. Rui Bento replied, "It's better when we have the experience of playing against one team, but for us, from my experience, one final, it's a different game." "We played against India, it was a competitive game and I hope the same competitive game. It's the final and the teams will try their best. I hope for a good game tomorrow, he added.
Kuwait haven't been able to win any international trophy for quite some time now. When the coach was asked about how important it is for Kuwait to win the competition, he said, "It's been a while since we won an international trophy, so fans must be excited about the process. I think maybe it has been seven or eight years since we last played a final. It's a good experience to be here, we will fight for ourselves, we will fight for our country and Inshallah we'll try to do our best and make the people in our country proud."
"I think it's very important tomorrow the players enjoy the game. I talk about this all the time. Sometimes I win and my team wins and I don't like the game and I speak about this with the players. Sometimes we draw and I think the performance is good and sometimes we lose and we make good games," he said on asking about the approach and preparation for this huge clash.
