Erling Haaland scored a brace while Stefan Ortega made some crucial saves coming from the bench for Manchester City FC as Pep Guardiola's men defeated Tottenham Hotspur by 2-0 in London to reclaim the top spot in the Premier League 2023-24Β points table. The first half went goalless but Haaland found the net from a Kevin de Bruyne assist in the 51st minute to put City in front.Β
However, an injury to Ederson changed the dynamic of the match as City were forced to replace him with Ortega in the goal. But, Ortega stepped up and made four huge saves to deny Spurs again and again. Son Heung Min had the best chance for the home team in the second half, but Ortega's save meant City had the lead. In the dying minutes of the match, Doku earned a penalty and Haaland doubled the lead for City.
City will now have to beat West Ham United on Sunday to win their record fourth consecutive Premier League title.Β

"It is incredible. It is so good and he is a good guy as well. He will have to go Euros now as he is so good and so important. I almost had a heart attack to be honest [during Son chance].

In the second half we were chasing the game so they got a little more space but I thought we were well in it up until [the second goal]. We had the opportunities and we had to punish them."
