The UEFA Champions League 2021-22 group stages are over and 16 teams have qualified for the round of 16. Liverpool, Bayern, and Ajax have qualified with a perfect 6 out of 6. On the other hand, Barcelona is knocked out of the league. This is the first time in 21 years that Barcelona has failed to qualify for the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League 2021-22.
The defending champions Chelsea were shocked after they tied 3-3 with Zenit, with Juventus winning over Malmö 0-1. Thus Juventus finished as the group leader on the last day of the group stages.
The 16 remaining teams in the competition will be drawn out for the ties and the pot will decide which team will face which team. However, the teams that already played each other in the group stage and teams from the same country cannot be drawn together.
Also, UEFA implemented a new rule that there will be no 'away goals rule', meaning, according to the UEFA, "ties level after 180 minutes will go to extra time irrespective of the number of goals each team has scored at home and away."
"If the teams still cannot be separated after the additional 30 minutes, the tie goes to a penalty shoot-out."
