The latest UEFA Club rankings are published, as Bayern Munich tops the ranking being the only German club in the top 5. Manchester City takes the second spot. While fellow English clubs Liverpool and Chelsea are placed third and fourth place respectively. Real Madrid are thr final and the only Spanish team to make it into the top 5.
What is UEFA Club Rankings?
In European football, the UEFA coefficients are statistics based in weighted arithmetic means used for ranking and seeding teams in club and international competitions. Introduced in 1979 for men's football tournaments, and after applied in women's football and futsal, the coefficients are calculated by UEFA, who administer football within Europe, as well as Armenia, Cyprus, Israel and the Asian parts of some transcontinental countries.
1. F.C. Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich finished top of the rankings due to their sheer dominance in the Bundesliga, as they won their nineth straight league title. They also progressed till the quarter finals of the Champions league.
2. Manchester City F.C.
Manchester City are placed second as the Citizens had year to remember as Pep Guardiola lifted his third Premier League title alongside winning the Carabao Cup. They also reached the final of the Champions League.
3. Liverpool F.C.
Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool finished third in the rankings due to a third place finish in the league, after winning the league , the year before. They had a disappointing defeat to Atletico Madrid in the round of 16 of the Champions League.
4. Chelsea F.C.
Thomas Tuchel's tricky Blues, Chelsea FC had a season of two halves as they are placed fourth. After a dreadful run of league matches, club legend Frank Lampard was sacked in February. German manager Thomas Tuchel was appointed, and with an incredible turn of fortune, Tuchel took Chelsea to Champions League Glory in Porto. Chelsea also reached the final of the prestigious F.A. Cup.
5. Real Madrid C.F.
Real Madrid are the final team to make it into the top 5. Being the only Spanish team in the top 5 of the UEFA Club Rankings as they finished second last season in La liga, missing out on the league to Atletico Madrid by 1 point. They also lost in the semi finals of the Champions League to the eventual champions, Chelsea FC.
