New Update

With the 2022 World Cup just around the corner, there is much speculation and debate surrounding the competition. Going into the tournament some teams, such as Denmark, have staged a silent protest by toning down their kit. Outside of the protests, there is the usual debate over which top players will go to Qatar and who will be left behind. The World Cup is famous for being a showcase of the world's best players (with the notable exception of Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah this year), and attention has also turned towards who will win the Golden Boot.

Harry Kane

After missing out on the Euro 2020 Golden Boot to Ronaldo (5 goals) after he failed to score in the final, Harry Kane will be looking to make his mark in the World Cup. Going into the World Cup, England forward is only two goals behind the country's top goal scorer Wayne Rooney (53 goals). If Kane plays well and England progress far, the Tottenham striker could mark the World Cup with two personal achievements. The football betting odds on Coral place England as joint 3rd favourites to win the tournament in Qatar. Yet while England is tipped to top their group, a recent lack of form saw them relegated to the second tier of the National League. Both Kane and England will be looking to change those fortunes around.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Euro 2020's Golden Boot winner is likely playing his last ever World Cup and will be looking to make a final impact on the international stage. The Portuguese international has scored a total of seven goals across all World Cups, with four coming in 2018, and he will be looking to add to that tally by winning the Golden Boot. He needs just three goals to beat Eusébio da Silva Ferreira to become Portugal's highest World Cup scorer.

Karim Benzema

Benzema has a lot to prove in this World Cup. After being left out of the 2018 World Cup, which France went on to win, Benzema will be hoping to help his country to a historic back-to-back victory. As the top goal scorer in the 2021/22 La Liga season and the Champions League, Benzema is a clear favourite to win the Golden Boot and go two better than his Bronze Boot in Euro 2020. In a recent interview with Téléfoot, Benzema put France as the favourite to win. If they do go far then he will have a good chance of winning the Golden Boot.

Kylian Mbappe

Snapping at Benzema's feet is Mbappe. The young French star has made a huge impact since the 2018 World Cup where he scored in the final, and he will be looking to cement his status as one of the world's best players, if not the best player, in Qatar. At the club level, Mbappe has become one of the game's most influential players and a good tournament could replicate this in the French national team. The only setback that could derail Mbappe would be picking up an injury, with French coach Didier Deschamps asking PSG to rest the French striker more often in preparation for the World Cup.
