The distinguished match to fetch the bronze medal between India vs Germany hockey team was voted as the third best match of 2021 by avid hockey fanatics, in a poll named FIH best of 2021.
Since 1980, Indian hockey team was struggling to gain a medal in the Olympics. However, history did not repeat itself on the 6th of august at Tokyo Olympics 2020. For the first time in Olympics, the Indian Hockey team was able to reward their country with a bronze medal. The attainment came after defeating Germany by 5-4. Avid hockey fanatics voted the distinguished India vs Germany match as the third best match of 2021 in a poll.

Avid Indian hockey fanatics around the world did not forget to burst into sheer excitement at the Manpreet Singh-led team's achievement.

Also the Hockey India president Gyanendro Ningobam had time to spill few words regarding this. "This historic win against Germany holds a special significance for the country as it not only ended the 41-year long wait, but also brought a new era for Indian hockey. The support from the Indian hockey fans has been overwhelming and we thank each and everyone who voted this match as their favorite one. On behalf of Hockey India, I congratulate the Indian Men's Hockey Team for this remarkable achievement and we wish them success in their future endeavors." said India President Gyanendro Ningombam in an official statement.
The results of the poll
The international Hockey federation created the poll named IFH Best of 2021. Fans voted for their favorite teams from a list of 10 nominees in each category. According to the fans, the women's quarter final match between Germany and Argentina was the best match of 2021. The top two matches featured on the poll were also from Tokyo Olympics itself.
