India women's hockey team started their debut series in the Women's FIH Pro League 2021-22 in the best way possible. In India's first match in the series, India emerged a 7-1 win against China in the Sultan Qaboos Complex, Muscat.

Savina Punia-led team proved their caliber in the first match itself. Under the training of India's head coach Janneke Schopman, the team showed that they are set for the upcoming challenges in the Women's FIH Pro League 2021-22. This was the opening match of the league for the women in blue as Australia and New Zealand had to withdraw from the competition due to COVID-19 related travel restrictions.
The Indian team also embarked on another achievement on Monday. They scored three goals from penalty strokes. In fact, this is the most number of penalty strokes to be awarded and converted in a hockey Pro League match.

Sushila scored her subsequent penalty stroke with eight minutes left in the game and made the final score 7-1. Players who netted goals last night:
Sushila Chanu Pukhrambam (47', 52'), Navneet Kaur (5'), Neha (12'), Vandana Katariya (40'), Sharmila Devi (48'), and Gurjit Kaur (50').
Sharmila Devi received the Player of the Match award. She said after receiving her award: "I am very happy with that performance. We played very well and we are very excited to be playing in the FIH Hockey Pro league for the first time."
