Indian Fencer Bhavani Devi on Friday (September 30) won her third consecutive gold medal by winning the women's Sabre competition at the National Games 2022 in Gandhinagar.

Bhavani Devi of Tamil Nadu defeated Jagmeet Kaur of Punjab 15-3 in the final. She also won gold medals in the 2011 and 2015 editions. Besides, Kerala's Christy Jose Josna and Manipuri Laishram Abi Devi won the bronze medal. Olympian Elavenil Valarivan defeated Tillotama Sen of Karnataka 16-10 to win the gold medal in women's rifle shooting. Mehuli Ghosh of West Bengal won the bronze medal. Gujarat star Elavenil Valarivan had a slow start in the final. Slowly she regained the rhythm and left Mehuli behind. Then he competed with Tilottama Sen for the gold medal. In athletics of National Games 2022, nine games were recorded on the first day, in which UP dominated. Munita Prajapati, daughter of a laborer belonging to a very poor family, made a games record by clocking 1.38.20 hours in the 20 kilometer walk. 17-year-old Parvez Khan of the army broke the 28-year-old record of veteran Bahadur Prasad. He clocked 3.40.89 minutes in 1500m. UP's Ajay Saroj finished second with a timing of 3.41.58 minutes.
On the other hand in the shot put, Kiran Balyan of UP set a new Games record by throwing 17.14 meters. Haryana's Manpreet Kaur came second and Punjab's Manpreet Kaur stood third. Swapna Barman, playing from Madhya Pradesh, who won the 2018 Asian Games gold medal in decathlon, set a new Games record in the high jump with a jump of 1.83 meters. While in hammer throw, Sarita Romit Singh of UP beat Rekha Singh of Uttarakhand with a time of 61.03m with 59.51m. In the women's 1500m, KM Chanda of Delhi won.
