At each edition of the Olympic Games, WOA inducts five Olympians into Olympians for Life. Olympians for Life recognises Olympians who have used their Olympic experiences to better the world by spreading Olympic Values throughout their life. However, WOA lately shared the name of the five Olympians for life for the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022. According to that, Six-time Winter Olympian from India Shiva Keshavan Becomes the first Indian to be included in Olympians for life.

Upon hearing the news, Keshavan shared his excitement via Twitter. In his words, "Proud to be the first Indian and one of only 5 Olympians to be inducted into the Olympians for Life Beijing 2022 edition! Olympism is a way of life and this recognition inspires me to keep working for Olympians and for the universality of sport."

Shiva Keshavan's achievments in a Nut-shell

Shiva Keshavan is a six-time Olympian and the first Indian to compete in the Winter Olympics in the sport of luge. However, upon breaking the previous record of 131.9 km/h (83.5 mph), he introduced a new Asian speed record of 134.3 km/h (83.5 mph) (82.0 mph). At the 2011 Asian Luge Cup in Nagano, Japan, he won gold. He set a new Asian track record of 49.590 seconds in 2012. Nevertheless, he now holds the title of Asian champion.

In the men's singles event, Keshavan qualified for his sixth and last Olympics in 2018. He went on to finish 34th out of 40 participants. He received the honour of being founder-president of the Olympians Association of India in 2014.

Throughout his career, from setting new records to reaching exceptionally new heights, Keshavan has accomplished a lot. Also, in the future, he wants to promote the Winter Olympics in India.

Nevertheless, apart from Keshavan, new Olympians for Life Beijing 2022 are:

  • Simidele Adeagbo OLY - Nigeria, Skeleton
  • Alain Calmat OLY - France, Figure Skating
  • Clara Hughes OLY - Canada, Speed Skating and Cycling
  • Ben Sandford OLY - New Zealand, Skeleton.

Olympic legend and Cool Runnings inspiration Chris Stokes OLY will host the event which will feature all five inductees. However, it will take place at 22:15, on 11th February.
