Tokyo Paralympics: Nishad Kumar bags silver in High Jump

Tokyo Paralympics: Nishad Kumar wins a silver medal in the T47 high jump event. He made a jump of 2.06m which is the new Asian Record.

Para-athlete Nishad Kumar held the Indian flag high at the Tokyo Paralympics 2020. Nishad made a jump of 2.06m which helped him bag the silver medal on Sunday. Meanwhile, he also went on to create a new Asian record. Altogether the event turned out to be a good affair for the Indian para-athlete.

USA's Roderick Townsend won the ever precious Gold medal. Meanwhile, Dallas Wise who is also from the USA bagged the bronze. Townsend made the jump of 2.15m while Wise recorded a jump of 2.06 m. Nishad and Wise both finished on the same mark, but Nishad had crossed the 2.02 mark in his first attempt while Wise took two. As a result, it helped Nishad Kumar to win the silver over Dallas Wise. India's Rampal Chahar finished at the fifth spot with a jump of 1.94m.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Nishad Kumar for his achievements in Tokyo.

"Absolutely delighted that Nishad Kumar wins the Silver medal in Men's High Jump T47. He is a remarkable athlete with outstanding skills and tenacity," he tweeted.
