Wrestlers' Protest: Delhi Police will register FIR against Brij Bhushan Singh today on the petition of wrestlers

The women wrestlers sitting on strike for the past several days had filed a petition in the Supreme Court. The petition demanded that an FIR be registered against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, President of the Wrestling Federation of India.

New Delhi, Apr 23 (ANI): Wrestlers Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia, Sangeeta Phogat and Sakshi Malik.

During the Supreme Court hearing on a petition by the country's top wrestlers against alleged sexual misconduct by Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the Delhi Police told the court that an FIR would be registered today itself. The Chief Justice also directed the police to provide security to women wrestlers. Wrestler's protest may increase in connection with the sit-in demonstration of women wrestlers.

The women wrestlers sitting on strike for the past several days had filed a petition in the Supreme Court. The petition demanded that an FIR be registered against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, President of the Wrestling Federation of India. The Wrestlers' protest had approached the Supreme Court on Monday, on which the court had issued a notice to the Delhi Police. During the hearing today, the Delhi Police told the court that they will file an FIR in this matter today.

Meanwhile, senior advocate Kapil Sibal appealed to the Supreme Court to issue guidelines for the safety of women wrestlers. He also appoint a retired judge to monitor it. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing in the court on behalf of the Delhi Police, said that all these matters would be looked into by the police. While the Supreme Court also directed the Delhi Police to file an affidavit. In this affidavit, instructions have been given about the steps to be taken for the safety of minor girls. It is also said that Delhi Police should also review the threat posed to minor girls.

Many wrestlers including Olympic medalists Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat are demanding action against Wrestling Federation President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Wrestlers allege that women wrestlers are sexually abused, as well as allegations of running a dictatorship on the wrestling federation president. Brij Bhushan Singh has been accused of sexual harassment second time in the last four months. In January this year, the wrestlers' protest ended after the government promised to look into the allegations against Brij Bhushan. But none of the promises were fulfilled. The wrestlers said as they sat at Delhi's Jantar Mantar again in April demanding punishment for Brij Bhushan.
