If you are looking to start an indoor game, what’s better than table tennis?

Being an indoor game, it is also a physical activity that adds to your fitness. But when you are a beginner, it is important to understand the game first and the area in which you need to work.

Moreover, you also need to know the rules of the game.

So without any further ado, follow the below-mentioned tips so that you get straight to playing and enjoying yourself.

Get Playing Equipment

There are many things attached to the game. It is not just about ping pong or a table.

Before you go to the playing arena, treat yourself with ping pong lovers’ gifts. These exclusive items are best for the players playing the game and also provide you with a professional feeling.

Furthermore, being in proper gear is needed if you want to improve your game quickly. Hence, whenever you decide to play, don’t miss anything essential.

Understand The Game Rules

Before you start playing, ensure that you know all the rules. Follow the rules for single-player.

  • A complete match consists of 5 games with 11 points each.
  • Each player serves for two points at a time.
  • While you serve, you should not be worried about where the ball lands, as there are no restrictions. If the ball is missed or mishit, it counts as the receiver’s point because it is in play once it has left the server’s hand.
  • If it contacts the top of the net during a Rally, it qualifies as a hit. However, not when serving. A served ball is considered a “let” serve and is redone if it strikes the net on the way over but otherwise lawfully bounces in play. There is no restriction on how frequently this may occur.
  • While you develop more skills and due to extreme spin, it is your point if you serve or smash the ball during a rally, and it returns over the net without being touched by your opponent after striking your opponent’s side of the table.
  • You are not allowed to touch the table with your none playing hand. Because if the table moves during the game, it is a point for the other player.

These are some of the basic rules to play. Therefore learn all of them before you start to play.

Keep A Ready Posture

When to start playing, you should be in a ready position every time. It helps your body to be in a great position to move quickly in any direction you want to.

It is very useful between the shot as the rally continues and as you prepare to serve.

A table tennis rally often goes as follows:

Put oneself in a prepared state of mind.

While maintaining balance, move your feet toward the ball.

Angulate the ball.

Always be in your prepared posture.

Continue until the rally is over.

Try To Master The Ball Spinning

When you look to win a point, it’s crucial to be able to read and comprehend the ball’s trajectory and spin when playing table tennis. You won’t be able to change the racket’s angle or apply the appropriate technique when the time is right unless you can accomplish topspin, backspin, and sidespin.

These are the important spinning movements that you must understand and also do yourself.

Also, there is a general principle. Always watch your opponent and pay attention to how his racket moves and tilts. By doing so, you can learn the spin of the ball.

Do Extended Practice

You might not play the game with the same opponent every day. Therefore, do extended practice since you won’t always have a partner to play against. You’ll need to practice and train alone to see actual growth in your game.

Create a practice schedule that allows specific time for each aspect of your game. You shouldn’t get frustrated if you don’t get it right quickly because playing skills improve over time.

The more you play, the more you will get to understand the game and polish your moves.

Improve Your Footwork

Footwork can be one of the most underrated aspects of table tennis. But as you learn more, you will need to start thinking more and more about your footwork and how you utilize your feet as you get better and start playing against players who are much better than you.

Professional table tennis players spend a lot of time practising this since it is important to be in the proper posture to return a ball.

When you first start, table tennis may seem challenging, but as you practice more, it will become easy to execute everything in a short time. You must keep it simple and do overdo your training, stay calm, and play regularly.
