Indian Sports: Indian Government to fund international competitions for wrestlers, shooters and weightlifters

The Indian Sports Ministry stated on Tuesday that it will subsidise abroad exposure visits for wrestlers, shooters, and weightlifters, as well as forthcoming international tournaments.

In the upcoming season, the wrestlers will compete in two tournaments. One of them will begin on February 17 in Bulgaria. The other one is in Turkey (Ranking Series). It will be held on February 24. In international competitions, ten wrestlers participate in each of the three categories: men's freestyle, women's freestyle, and Greco Roman.

The Indian Sports Ministry declared, "A total of 20 men's wrestlers across the Freestyle and Greco-Roman categories will be taking part. While 10 coaching staff will accompany them. The women's wrestling contingent, meanwhile, consists of 10 wrestlers and five support staff."

"A total of 11 Women's Wrestlers and a total of 23 Men's Wrestlers will be participating. While the women's contingent will have 5 coaching and support staff, the men's contingent will comprise of 11 coaching and support staff," They added.

Also, from the 23rd to the 28th of February, the Indian weightlifting squad will compete in Singapore. Mirabai Chanu, a silver medalist at the Tokyo Olympics, will be amongst the 24-member delegation. However, on the other hand, Ravi Dahiya and Bajrang Punia will compete in the Turkey event.

The government has also given its approval for an Indian shooting team to compete in the ISSF World Cup. It consists of 33 members.
