Frustrated by the defeat, the fans were creating an orgy, hundreds of dead bodies were laid

The incident happened after a football match of Indonesian league BRI Liga 1 at Kanjuruhan Stadium in Malang Regency, East Java on Saturday night. The area's police chief, Nico Afinta, said that the supporters of the losing side attacked the pitch after the football match between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya. After which the officers had to release tear gas, which led to a stampede.

"It had gotten anarchic. They started attacking officers, they damaged cars," Nico said, adding that the crush occurred when fans fled for an exit gate.

The police team had to use tear gas shells to pacify the miscreants. After which there was a stampede in the field. Many people have also died due to suffocation. The video of this incident has also surfaced on social media. In video footage posted on social media, people was running on the stadium pitch in Malang. The death toll in this violence has crossed 174. Whereas, many people got injured.

"Many of our friends lost their lives because of the officers who dehumanised us," said Muhammad Rian Dwicahyono, 22, crying, as he nursed a broken arm at the local Kanjuruhan hospital. "Many lives have been wasted."

The Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) issued a statement expressing regret over the incident of the football match in Indonesia and said a team has left for Malang to begin an investigation into what happened after the game. PSSI said in the statement, "PSSI regrets the actions of Arema supporters at Kanjuruhan Stadium. We are sorry and apologize to the families of the victims and all the parties involved in the incident. For this PSSI immediately constituted an investigation team and Immediately left for Malang."
