Sania Mirza and her partner Anna Danilina crashed out of the Australian Open 2023 after losing in the second round of the women's doubles event on Sunday. The Indo-Kazakh pair lost to Belgium's Alison Van Uytvanck and Ukraine's Anhelina Kalinina 4-6, 6-4, 2-6. With this defeat, Sania's hopes of winning the title in the last Grand Slam are almost over.

Although there is hope in the mixed doubles, but it will be tough for Sania and Rohan Bopanna to win the Australian Open 2023. They entered the second round of the mixed doubles event on Saturday. Rio 2016 semi-finalists Saina Mirza and Rohan Bopanna beat Australian wild-card entries Jaimee Fourlis and Luke Saville 7-5, 6-3 in one hour and 14 minutes. They will face next Japan's Makato Ninomiya and Uruguay's Ariel Behar in their second-round match on Monday.

The Indian pair suffered an early setback in the match, breaking their serve in the fourth game. However, Mirza and Bopanna made a quick comeback. They won six of the next eight games to take the first set. They held on in the second set and defeated Jaimee Fourlis and Luke Saville in the seventh and ninth games to win the set and the match.

Earlier, Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza won the mixed doubles title at the 2017 French Open. While Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupathi won the Australian Open mixed doubles championship in 2009. Earlier, Sania and Anna defeated the Hungarian-American team of Dalma Galfi and Bernarda Pera to enter the women's doubles second round. Meanwhile, Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden were knocked out of the men's doubles competition. They lost 6-3, 7-5 to Austria's Lucas Miedler and Alexander Erler on Friday.

Ahead of the Australian Open 2023, Sania had revealed that the Australian Open 2023 would be her final Grand Slam. And she will call time on her career after the WTA Dubai Championships, which will start in February.
