All the speculations came to an end as Novak Djokovic unveiled that he will not be able to compete in the Indian Wells 2022 or Miami since he is unvaccinated and unable to travel to the United States. Unvaccinated Djokovic stated via Twitter that restrictions requiring non-US citizens to get vaccinated before entering the US had caused him to withdraw.

Due to US travel limitations, Novak Djokovic's participation in the two renowned US championships had been in doubt for weeks. Despite worries over his condition, the 34-year-old was named in the men's draw for Indian Wells on Tuesday.

"Novak Djokovic is on the tournament entry list. And therefore is placed into the draw today. We are currently in communication with his team. However, it has not been determined if he will participate in the event by getting CDC approval to enter the country," tournament officials said on Tuesday.

Organizers of the Indian Wells tournament have stated that documentation of complete vaccination will be required for spectator access to the tournament venue. Five-time Indian Wells champion Djokovic was also barred from the Australian Open in January. The officials said he didn't meet the country's vaccination standards for unvaccinated visitors. Therefore, his visa was eventually cancelled. Also, after a legal appeal failed, he left without playing.

However, Djokovic's place in the main draw had been usurped by Grigor Dimitrov, with a "lucky loser" from qualifying taking the Bulgarian's spot.
