Last year, Stefanos Tsitsipas' elbow injury was so severe that he contemplated withdrawing from tennis. However, following a successful surgery, he stated that he is now fit to compete in Indian Wells in 2022. The 23-year-old's doctor was taken aback by how fast he recovered from surgery late last year. Also, the Greek highlighted his semi-final participation in the Australian Open in January as one of his finest achievements.
What does the player have to say regarding this?
"I went through a period where I didn't enjoy playing tennis anymore. Because the pain was so intense," Prior to the start of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, he informed the reporters.
"I remember being at the Nitto ATP Finals a few days before the surgery, I was thinking of quitting. I didn't think back then that anyone would be able to help me heal and get back to where I wanted. It was a very difficult moment that I had to go through. I was in a very bad place."
However, he is in a much better place now. He stated that his aims for 2022 are to remain healthy and focused after not being able to do so last year. In his words, "I wasn't able to stay motivated because I didn't believe in myself. My body was stopping me from going there. It was very sad to feel helpless. I felt weak and I felt unable to reach new heights. So I want to be consistent and feel good about myself this year."
"Winning here would give me a massive amount of confidence to win Grand Slam titles," he concluded.

Nevertheless, with the competition starting in only a few days, the Greek enjoyed his time off with his girlfriend Theodora Petalas. The two went on a leisurely sightseeing tour of California's stunning beaches as well as other metropolitan attractions. As a result, the Greek will now look forward to conquering the Indian Wells 2022 with the replenishment at his side. His highest finish in the event so far has been the quarterfinals, but he'll be desperate to change that.
