Taylor Fritz, Carlos Alcaraz, Pablo Carreno Busta, Borna Coric and Holger Rune joined the list of ATP Masters 1000 champions in Tennis 2022. Fritz kicked off proceedings by winning his hometown title at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells by defeating Rafael Nadal, a winner of 36 Masters 1000 titles.
ATP Masters 1000, which debuted as a series in 1990, features the best men's tennis players at nine top tournaments on the ATP Tour calendar. Champions at Masters 1000 events earn 1,000 Pepperstone ATP Rankings points.

1. Rafael Nadal | Australian Open
Tennis great Rafael Nadal defeated Daniil Medvedev 2-6,6-7,6-4,6-4,7-5 to win the men's singles title at the Australian Open 2022. This was his 21st major title, becoming the first male player to do so. Nadal went 2-0 down against Medvedev in the final match, after which he made a strong comeback and made history by winning three consecutive sets. Earlier, no player in Open Era tennis had won the title in the final of the Australian Open after going down two sets.
Prior to this final, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic had won 20 Grand Slams. With this title, Nadal left behind both the giants and won the 21st title. Earlier Pete Sampras has won 14 titles and Roy Emerson of Australia has won 12 titles. Rafael Nadal has become the fourth player in tennis history to have won each Grand Slam at least twice.
2. Taylor Fritz | Indian Wells
Taylor Fritz won the singles title of Indian Wells aka BNP Paribas Open 2022 by defeating Rafael Nadal in the final match winning a campaign of 20 consecutive matches despite an ankle injury. With this win, he became the first American to win the title since 2001. Earlier, Andre Agassi of America won this title in 2001. Fritz was under pressure to withdraw from the match due to injury. His coach had advised him not to take risks but the American player did not give up and defeated Spanish legend Nadal 6-3, 7-5 (6) to win the title.
3. Carlos Alcaraz | Miami Open
Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has won the men's singles title at the Miami Open 2022. In the final, he defeated Casper Ruud of Norway. Carlos gave a tremendous performance in this match, defeating his opponent in straight sets. This is the first ATP Masters title of his career. Carlos, who idolizes Rafael Nadal, is the youngest male tennis player to win the Miami Open. 18-year-old Carlos Alcaraz broke Novak Djokovic's record with this title win. Earlier in the year 2007, Djokovic won the Miami Open as the youngest.
4. Stefanos Tsitsipas | Monte Carlo Masters
Greece's Stefanos Tsitsipas beat unseeded Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6. 3, 7. 6 to win the Monte Carlo Masters 2022 tennis title again. The match between the two lasted for 1 hour 36 minutes.Tsitsipas, who lost to Djokovic in the French Open final last year, became the first champion since Rafael Nadal in 2018 to retain the Monte Carlo title. This was Greece's world number five Tsitsipas's eighth title of his career.
5. Carlos Alcaraz | Madrid Open
Carlos Alcaraz defeated defending champion Alexander Zverev of Germany 6-3 6-1 to win the men's singles Madrid Open 2022. Alcaraz looked dangerous throughout the tournament, defeating Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic to reach the final. This was his second Masters 1000 crown and his fourth title of the year since Miami 2022. The 19-year-old is the youngest player to beat three top players in the same event since the ATP Tour debut in 1990. Ranked 120th in the world just a year ago, Alcaraz has moved up to 1st in the latest rankings, his career-high ranking.
6. Novak Djokovic | Italian Open
Serbia's Novak Djokovic defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas to win the 79th edition of the Italian Open 2022 in Rome and claim the 38th ATP Masters 1000 crown. Novak Djokovic has become the fifth man in the Open Era to win 1,000 matches after beating Casper Ruud in the semi-finals. With this win, Djokovic beat top-10 players in three consecutive matches in Rome and fifth-place Tsitsipas. In January 2022, he was relegated ahead of the Australian Open for not being vaccinated against COVID-19.
7. Rafael Nadal | Ronald-Garros
Rafael Nadal defeated Casper Ruud 6-3, 6-3, 6-0 to win the match and became the champion of the Ronald Garros aka French Open 2022 title. This was the 14th time that Nadal won the French Open. During this match, Ruud could not put pressure on Nadal from anywhere and went on to lose every set with ease. He also earned some points in the first two sets, but in the last set, he was a complete loser and could not score a single point.
8. Novak Djokovic | Wimbledon
Novak Djokovic has once again become the Wimbledon champion. First seed Djokovic defeated Nick Kyrgios of Australia 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 in the final in a 4-set match. With this, Djokovic won the men's singles title at Wimbledon for the seventh time. In that biggest grass court tournament, Djokovic has not lost since 2018 and thus won his fourth consecutive title. Djokovic won his 21st Grand Slam title with 28 consecutive successes, one less than the record holder Rafael Nadal. Nadal took the highest number of titles to 22 by winning the Australian Open and French Open this year. At the same time, in terms of winning the most Wimbledon titles, Djokovic is second only to Roger Federer. The legendary Federer has won eight Wimbledon titles.
9. Pablo Carreño Busta | Canadian Open
Pablo Carreño Busta of Spain won his maiden ATP Masters 1000 title by defeating Hubert Hurkacz of Poland in the final of the Canadian Open 2022. Before him, this feat was accomplished by Guillermo Canas of Argentina. Busta is the third Spanish winner after the legendary Rafael Nadal and Manuel Orantes. He has so far won seven ATP Tour titles.
10. Borna Coric | Cincinnati Open
Borna Coric defeated world number five Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-6, 6-2 to win the Cincinnati Open title for the first time. Croatia's 25-year-old Coric entered the tournament as a player ranked 152 but has jumped 123 places to 29th after winning the title. He has defeated four top 10 players including Rafael Nadal in this event. This can lead to a tremendous jump in their ATP rankings. He was playing his first tour-level final match since 2020.
11. Carlos Alcaraz | US Open
Spain's 19-year-old player Carlos Alcaraz has won his first Grand Slam title by defeating Casper Ruud of Norway 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(1), 6-3 in the final of the US Open 2022. With this achievement, he has become the youngest player to be ranked number one in the world rankings. The ATP ranking was started in 1973 and since then he is the youngest player who has become number one. He has replaced Russian player Daniil Medvedev to get the number one chair. With this, he has broken the record of Lleyton Hewitt. Hewitt became number one in 2001 at the age of 20.
12. Holger Rune | Paris Masters
Danish young tennis player Holger Rune stunned everyone by defeating former world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the Paris Masters 2022 final. Holger, just 19, defeated Djokovic 3-6, 6–3, 7-5 in the title match to win the first ATP 1000 Masters title of his career. This is the biggest win of Holger's career and has moved him to number 10 in the latest ATP rankings. Djokovic won the Paris Masters a record 6 times in his career and was also the defending champion. According to Djokovic's current form, everyone thought he would win the tournament too, but Holger's scintillating performance surprised Djokovic, the 21-time singles Grand Slam winner.
