Emma Raducanu, who created a sensation after winning the US Open title last year, has to face defeat in the first match itself. France's Alize Cornet defeated her in straight sets by a margin of 3-6, 3-6 at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in the US Open 2022. After losing this match, Raducanu didn't look sad, She expressed that she was 'happy' that the pressure of being a reigning major champ had been lifted and ready for the challenge of fighting her way back up the rankings

"Definitely disappointed, this is my favorite tournament, but not disappointed. Will get back to the rhythm soon. I'm proud for putting myself out there every match, every day. Like I know I'm pushing myself to be the best I can. There's not much I can do." said Raducanu after the match.

Eleventh-seeded Raducanu is the third women's tennis player to exit the first round of the US Open despite being the defending champion. After the loss, the 19-year joined Angelique Kerber and Svetlana Kuznetsova in the same seat. Kerber in 2017 and Kuznetsova in 2005 were the defending champions but were knocked out in the first round in subsequent editions of the US Open.

At the Louis Armstrong Stadium, Cornet played some ferocious tennis that Britain's Emma had no answer for. The French tennis star who ranked No. 40 in the ATP rankings, used all her experience to grab the match. The 19-year-old Radukanu had no answer for that. Not for the first time, Cornet defeated top-ranked Iga Swiatek at Wimbledon last month.
