Iga Swiatek, the top-ranked female player in the world tennis rankings, has reached the final of the women's singles at the US Open 2022. She made it to the finals because of an emergency bathroom break. Swiatek reached the first US Open final of her career, defeating Aryna Sabalenka 3–6, 6–1, 6–4 at Arthur Ashe Stadium in the semifinal match. She will now face fifth seed Ons Jabeur in the final, who defeated France's Caroline Garcia 6-1, 6-3 in the semi-finals.
"I tried to use that time to think about what to change because I remember when I was younger all I would do in the bathroom between sets after I lost was cry. But this time I could think about what to change and actually problem solve." Swiatek said.

Match report:
Sixth seed Sabalenka of Belarus did well in the first set and was ready for a turnaround, but Swiatek had to take a bathroom break after the first set and played a different game after that. She won the second set 6-1 and the third set 6-4 to reach the finals. Swiatek also said that during the break she thought about the mistakes she made in the first set and it helped in her comeback.
Sabalenka was leading 4-2 in the final set, but lost the match and was unable to accept it. She appeared at a press conference with glasses. It was the third time that Sabalenka lost in a Grand Slam semi-final.
On the other hand, Ons Jabeur became the first African woman to reach the final of the US Open, overtaking France's Garcia. Earlier in July, she also became the first African woman to reach the Wimbledon 2022 final.
