The Women's Tennis Association (WTA) has honored Polish tennis star Iga Swiatek with the Player of the Year award for her incredible performance in the year 2022 on Monday.

Iga Swiatek, who was named the Newcomer of the Year in 2020, had an extraordinary season in 2022. She won eight tournaments, including six titles in a row and a 37-match winning record. Due to her excellent performance, she reached the top of the women's singles rankings. Eight Championships includes two Grand Slams at Roland Garros and the US Open, WTA 1000 titles at Qatar, Total Energy Open (Doha), BNP Paribas Open (Indian Wells), Miami Open, Internazionali BNL d'Italia (Rome) (Rome), Porsche Tennis Grand Prix (Stuttgart). According to the WTA Tour website, Swiatek won a total of 67 matches this season.
Meanwhile David Witt was honored with the WTA Coach of the Year award. Witt is the current coach of Jessica Pegula. Under Witt's coaching, Pegula, who started the year ranked No. 18, had a stellar 2022 and finished the season ranked third. Pegula reached the final of the Mutua Madrid Open for the first time in her career and won the Guadalajara Open Akron, in addition to reach the quarterfinals of three of the four Grand Slams.

Barbora Krejcikova and doubles World No 1 Katerina Siniakova were named Doubles Team of the Year for the second consecutive season and the third time overall. While The Czech pair has won three major titles in 2022, including the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open. They also advanced to the WTA Finals title match. Their victory in New York gave them a career Grand Slam, a feat accomplished by only six other doubles teams.
Zheng Qinwen was named WTA newcomer of the year. She climbed almost 100 positions in the WTA Rankings this season, thanks to a consistent streak of results. She is also expected to break into the Top 25 by the end of 2022.
