Freestyle wrestler Anirudh Kumar took the Indian men's medal tally to 7 by winning a bronze medal on the final day at the ongoing Asian Wrestling Championships 2023 in Astana, Kazakhstan. Indian men finished their campaign with one gold, one silver, and 5 bronze medals.

In the 125 kg men's freestyle category, Anirudh Gulia won the bronze medal by defeating Uzbekistan's Sardorbek Kholmatov 12-2 on the basis of technical superiority in the bronze medal match. Earlier, Anirudh Kumar had defeated Japan's Taiki Yamamoto 8-2 in the qualification round but lost 2-0 to Kazakhstan's Yusup Batirmurzaev in the quarterfinals. The Kazakhstani wrestler later booked his place in the final, due to which the Indian wrestler got a place in the bronze medal match.

While none of the other four Indian wrestlers competing on the final day of the Asian Wrestling Championships made it to the medal round. Olympian Deepak Punia lost to Bahrain's Magomed Sharipov in the 92kg freestyle quarterfinals. In the 74 kg category, Yash Tushir went down against Japan's Kirin Kinoshita in the qualification round. At the same time, Pankaj Malik's challenge ended with an Asian Wrestling Championships quarterfinal loss in the 61kg category. While Jonty Kumar also bowed out after losing in the quarterfinals of 86kg freestyle.

On Thursday, freestyle wrestler Aman Sehrawat won the lone gold medal for India. Greco-Roman wrestlers won 4 medals in the competition while women wrestlers captured 7 medals.
