Asian championships silver-medallist Gourav Baliyan won the 79kg title. Saturday, on the final match of the Senior National Wrestling Championships 2021 in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh he achieved it.

Gourav Baliyan defeated fellow Asian silver-medallist Jitender 5-3 in the 79kg final. Although Tokyo 2020 bronze-medallist Bajrang Punia guided Jitender. Bajrang had picked out of the nationals as he is recovering from a knee injury.

In the highly competitive 74kg category, young Pritam emerged as the national champion. Pritam beat junior world championships bronze-medallist Yash 11-0 in the final.

Yash had earlier beaten former Asian champion and worlds bronze-medallist Narsingh Yadav in the semi-final. Narsingh Yadav, meanwhile, had beaten former champion Amit Dhankar in the qualification round.

on the other side, Geeta Phogat won the silver medal in the women's 59kg division at the senior national wrestling championship in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.

Geeta Phogat, a former Commonwealth Games champion and world championships bronze medallist, cruised to the final despite the nationals being her first competitive event since becoming a mother in 2018.

Although, Geeta's sister Sangeeta Phogat eventually won the gold medal in the 62kg division. She defeated Ritu Rani by technical superiority in the final.

Sangeeta's husband, Tokyo 2020 medallist Bajrang Punia, was in the crowd to watch his better half in action.

Shivani Pawar, who won silver at the recent U23 worlds, continued her good form. She picked up gold in the women's 50kg category. Therefore, She took over Tokyo 2020 Olympian Seema Bisla in the semi-finals. Thereafter before pinning junior worlds bronze medallist Simran for the title.
