WFI Elections will be held on July 6, returning officer announced via notification

The dates for the WFI elections have been announced. Voting for all the posts will be held on July 6. The result will also come out on the same day, the returning officer announced via a notification on Tuesday.

During the WFI elections, all eyes will be on people close to President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Brij Bhushan, surrounded by allegations of sexual exploitation, will stay away from this election, but the companions can try their luck.

India's top wrestlers have been protesting for days for the WFI elections and against the removal of office-bearers, including President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The wrestlers had accused some of the team's coaches, including Brij Bhushan, of sexual harassment.

The country's top wrestlers were openly fighting against Brij Bhushan Singh for 138 days. For the first time on January 18, wrestlers sat on dharna, and on April 23 started the second dharna. There was also an FIR against the wrestlers, but the protests continued. However, after a meeting between the wrestlers and Home Minister Amit Shah, the story changed and the wrestlers returned to work. After that, in the meeting held with Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, many issues were discussed and some matters were agreed upon. Then the wrestlers agreed not to protest till June 15.

In the meeting of the wrestlers with the Sports Minister, it was also agreed that no member of Brij Bhushan's family or his associate would contest the WFI elections. It will be interesting to see how many people associated with Brij Bhushan file nominations for the elections of the Federation. Brij Bhushan's son Karanbhushan Singh is the vice president of the wrestling federation. While his son-in-law Vishal Singh is the president of the Bihar Wrestling Association.

Issuance of voter list for WFI elections will not be easy. The Wrestling Federation has dissolved the Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh Wrestling Federations and established a new federation. Most of the cases are pending in the court. In such a situation, it will depend on the presiding officer whether he gives the right to vote to any state association.

WFI Elections will be held for 15 posts, one president, one senior vice-president, four vice-presidents, one secretary-general, one treasurer, two joint secretaries, and five executive committee members. The candidates will be able to withdraw their nominations between June 28 and July 1, following which the final list of the contesting candidates will be put up on July 2.
