Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist star boxer Lovlina Borgohain put on a stellar performance to reach the final of the ongoing Asian Boxing Championships 2022 in Amman, Jordan on Wednesday.

Lovlina, competing in the women's 75kg, defeated Seong Suyeon of South Korea in the semi-finals. She cleverly used her technique and strategy during the match to register a 5-0 win. The South Korean boxer could not make a comeback in front of the flamboyant punch of the Assam's boxer. Earlier, Lovlina has won two bronze medals at the Asian Championships and this time at least ensured her silver. This is her best performance in this championship.
At the same time, 2022 Illinois Cup champion Alfiya Pathan has also won her semi-final against 2016 world champion Lazzat Kungeibayeva of Kazakhstan by 5-0 in the women's +81kg category. This is the second time in this year that Alfiya has defeated Lazzat.
In the finals, Lovlina will take on Ruzmetova Sokhiba of Uzbekistan, and Alfiya will take on Jordan's Islam Husaili. Both the boxers will give a tough fight to win the gold for India in the Asian Boxing Championships 2022. In other bouts, Ankushita Boro (66 weight category) lost to Khamidova Navbakhor of Uzbekistan. She had to be content with the bronze medal.

Meanwhile, world championship bronze medallist Parveen was equally commanding in her 5-0 win over Uranbileg Shinetsetseg of Mongolia in the women's 63kg semi-final. She will face Japan's Kito Mai in the final. While, Saweety Boora, a silver medallist at the world championships, won the semifinal against Lina Jaber of Jordan after the referee stopped the contest (RSC) in the second round of the women's 81kg semi-final. Her semi-final opponent is yet to be determined.
Minakshi, on the other hand, was up against the 2021 Asian Championships bronze medallist Lutsaikhan Altantsetseg of Mongolia. The Indian boxer found it easy and set up the summit clash against Kinoshita Rinka of Japan.
