There has never been a men's world championship in India. But there will be a women's championship for the third time. Earlier the championship has been held in Delhi in 2006 and 2018. International Boxing Association President Umar Kremlev is on his first tour of India and the dates of the tournament will be decided during his visit. The tournament can be played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi.

Kremlev had recently announced that the men's world championship, to be held in Tashkent next year in May. And the prize money will go double from the previous edition. It is to be seen if the world body announces the same for the women's event.

However, India lost the hosting of the men's championship in 2021 to Serbia as the hosting fees could not be paid. In the last Women's World Boxing Championship in Turkey, India had won three medals. Which includes Nikhat Zareen's gold medal in the flyweight category.
