India's Selva Prabhu Thirumaran has won gold in the men's triple Jump event at the Venizelia-Chania International 2023 athletics meet in Greece on Sunday.

The World Athletics Games were held in Greece under the name of the Continental Series of World Athletes under the name of the Venizelia-Chania organization. In this, Selva Prabhu from Madurai, who participated in the triple jump junior category for India, won gold.
Selva Prabhu recorded his personal best and also overhauled the junior national record. Accordingly, he has surpassed the distance of 16.78m. He jumped accurately in his attempts, making no mistakes three times in the final. In his second attempt, he cleared a distance of 16.78 meters and won the gold. With this, he broke the old national record in the triple jump junior category and set a new goal.
Meanwhile, Julian Konle of Australia finished second with a jump of 16.60m. While local athlete Dimítrios Tsiamis claimed third place with a 16.33m effort. In the men's long jump event at the World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze meet, India's Jeswin Aldrin finished overall fifth with a best jump of 7.66m. The gold medal went to Jalen Rucker of Australia, who produced a jump of 7.86m. France's Jules Pommery (7.84m) and Nikolaos Stamatonikolos (7.81m) of Greece bagged the silver and bronze medal, respectively.

Earlier, 18-year-old Selva Prabhu won the silver medal with a jump of 16.15 meters at the World Under-20 Athletics Championship held in Colombia last year. He edged out Estonia's Viktor Morozov in Europe by 2cm to claim the silver medal. Following that, Selva Prabhu cleared a distance of 16.59 meters in the recent national-level athletics competition held last May. In this case, he broke his own record and reached a new milestone at the national level in the junior category.
