Anurag Thakur, the Minister of Sports, has recently announced the launch of 40 Khelo India Centers in Jammu & Kashmir. The initiative is aimed at promoting sports and providing better facilities for young athletes in the region. Thakur hinted at starting the 2022 Khelo India Winter Games with great enthusiasm.

At the opening, the former India first-class player put on his sports shoes as he faced a few balls amidst the snowfall. This edition of the Khelo India Winter Games will be played from February 10 to 14 in the valley of Gulmarg. A total of 1600 athletes will participate in 11 sports from across the country. The Union Sports Minister also announced that the government would bear the expenses of all the athletes. Thakur was excited at the prospect of players representing India at the world level.
The launch of the 40 Khelo India Centers in Jammu & Kashmir is a significant step towards promoting sports in the region. This will also provide better opportunities for young athletes. The centers will provide state-of-the-art facilities, including indoor and outdoor sports facilities, training areas, hostels, and administrative buildings. The athletes will receive training in a variety of sports, including football, hockey, basketball, gymnastics, and more. On this occasion, Thakur explained about the importance of the Khelo India Winter Games.

After the success of the Khelo India Youth Games, in 2020 they also launched the Khelo India Winter Games. Events like Skiing, Alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, Snow rugby, Ice stock sport, Snow baseball, Mountaineering, Snowshoe running, Ice hockey, Figure skating, and Speed skating, are the sporting events that comprise the mega event. Moreover, Khelo India Youth Games have been instrumental in the addition of many athletes breaking out on the international stage. And now it is time for the Khelo India Winter Games to do the same and raise the flag of India in the Winter Olympics.
