Women's National Boxing Championships 2022: Lovlina and Nikhat Zareen storm into the finals

World champion Nikhat Zareen and Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain entered the final of the Women's National Boxing Championships 2022 in Bhopal on Sunday.

Nikhat Zareen (50kg) representing Telangana defeated Shvinder Kaur of AIP 5-0 in the 50kg semi-final. She will face Anamika for the gold medal match. On the other hand, Assam's Lovlina (75kg) defeated Jigyasa Rajput of Madhya Pradesh by a unanimous decision to enter the finals. Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Lovlina will take on SSCB world youth champion Arundhati Choudhary in the gold medal match.

At the same time, defending champions RSPB and their 2017 boxers, led by Manju Rani (8 World Championships silver medallist) and Jyoti Gulia (2019 World Youth Champion), also made it to the finals. In a one-sided match, Manju Rani showed her dominance against Madhya Pradesh's Anjali Sharma. She won the bout 5-0 and will take on S Kalaivani in the final on Monday. While Jyoti Gulia made a comeback in the last 2 rounds. She landed regular punches to earn a 4-1 decision in her favor.

Apart from Lovlina and Nikhat, world championships bronze medallists Manisha (57kg) from Haryana, Punjab's Simranjit Kaur (60kg), and eight boxers from Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) also made the cut for finals. Manisha defeated Sonia Lather of RSPB 4-1 in 57kg and will face Vinakshi of Himachal Pradesh in the final. While Simranjit Kaur (60kg) got the better of AIP's Kros Hmangaihsangi. She will be up against RSPB's Poonam in the summit clash.

Moreover, another six Railways boxers also moved into the finals of the Women's National Boxing Championships 2022. They are Anupama (50kg), Shikhsa (54kg), Poonam (60 kg), Shashi (63kg), Anupama (81kg), and Nupur (81+kg). All the finalists will play the gold medal match on Monday.
